It is a long home season that awaits Indian cricket team. And to begin with team India is scheduled to take on New Zealand. The Kiwis travel to India for a three-match Test and five-match One-Day International (ODI) series spanned over a month. New Zealand’s tour of India kicks off with first Test at Green Park stadium in Kanpur on September 22 and caps off on October 29 with an ODI at Visakhapatnam.
After New Zealand, India faces England, Australia and Bangladesh in Tests. And at the end of home season India will be eyeing to climb to number one ranking in Tests, which they lost to Pakistan recently. In total, India will play 13 Test at home and have a good opportunity to get back to numero uno position.
After the first Test at Kanpur, the teams will travel to Kolkata and Indore for second and third Test respectively. Indore’s Holkar Stadium will get to host its maiden Test. Also as reported earlier, no day-night Test will take place between India and New Zealand. The five-match ODI series starts from October 16 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala. Delhi, Mohali. Ranchi and Vishakhapatnam will host the subsequent ODIs. Virat Kohli will lead the Test side while MS Dhoni is expected to continue as limited-overs captain. On the other hand Kane Williamson will lead the New Zealand side. The Kiwis have historically struggled in India. Out of 31 Tests against India in India, New Zealand has won just two and lost 13. Ahead of the first Test, New Zealand team played a warm-up match against Mumbai. The game ended in a draw, but New Zealand bowlers were made to toil hard. After New Zealand declared their innings on 324 for seven, Mumbai piled up 464 for eight with centuries each from Kaustubh Pawar, Suryakumar Yadav and Siddhesh Lad. In second innings New Zealand were bowled out for 235.
New Zealand has included all-rounder Jimmy Neesham for Test matches and recalled Corey Anderson for ODI series. Gautam Gambhir, who was in good form in Duleep Trophy, was left-out and opener Shikhar Dhawan along with Rohit Sharma were given an extended run.
