India vs New Zealand 2nd T20I: Stand-in captain Rohit Sharma became the leading run-scorer in T20I history apart from slamming the most number of sixes for India in international cricket. Rohit went past Dhoni to clinch the feat as he hit four sixes in his 29-ball 50 blitz at Eden Park. India won the match by seven wickets and leveled the three-match ongoing series. His six-hitting spree started when he tonked Lockie Fergusson over mid-wicket for a six. The Mumbai-born then flicked Scott Kuggeleijn for a six over fine leg. The other two sixes came against the spin of Ish Sodhi and Mitchell Santner. The Mumbai Indians captain also joined Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill to become only the third player to hit 100+ sixes in T20Is.

This is also India’s first win in New Zealand in T20Is. They lost all the three T20Is which they played before in the Kiwi land. USA is the only country where they have not won a T20I match yet among countries in which they have played the shortest format.

“Very pleased to see how we bowled, and we were quite clinical with the bat as well. We have quality in our side, but we executed our plans better today, after learning from our mistakes. It’s important to understand the mistakes that we made – it’s been a long tour for everyone,” Rohit Sharma said at the post-match presentation.

“So we didn’t want to put a lot of pressure on the boys, just go in there with a clear mind. It’s going to be a cracker of a game in the 3rd T20I, but nothing to take away from New Zealand, they’re still a quality side,” Rohit added.

The decider will take place on February 10 at Hamilton.
