New Zealand vs India Highlights, 3rd ODI: A formidable Indian team completely dominated an out of sorts New Zealand for a series-clinching seven-wicket win in the third ODI, continuing to send a resounding message of its near invincibility to every World Cup opposition. With an unassailable lead in the five-match series, skipper Virat Kohli signed off his tour Down Under on a high with a first ODI series win in New Zealand in 10 years. However, it is to be noted that prior to this, India played just one series here since the one in 2009. It was a complete team effort after the bowlers shot New Zealand out for 243 in 49 overs with all-rounder Hardik Pandya (2/45 in 10 overs) making his presence felt with the ball as well as on the field. Pandya was playing his first match after the suspension on him for sexist remarks on a TV show was lifted. 14.51 IST: You can only marvel at the ease with which India manage to chase down totals. As it has been in the series so far, it’s another controlled and comfortable win for the Men in Blue. They first did the business with the ball, keeping New Zealand to just 243 on a decent batting surface. The fact there was only one century stand, between Taylor and Latham who scored fifties, and the next highest was of 33, says plenty about how far this Indian side has come, especially as a bowling unit. It was a collective performance from them.
14.49 IST: Domination is the word for Team India!
14.46 IST: FIVE WIDES! In a fashion, but a victory is a victory. INDIA WIN BY 7 WICKETS AND WIN THE SERIES! Bracewell bangs it in short, it angles down, Rayudu doesn’t do anything about it as it goes over him and the keeper to the fence behind. India (245/3) beat New Zealand (243-all out) by 7 wickets to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in five-ODI series. Rohit 62, Kohli 60, Boult 2/40
14.42 IST: SIX! Karthik gives the charge, takes this on the full, says thank you very much and dispatches it. Jumps out, it’s a high full toss but he heaves it over mid-wicket for a maximum. India 233/3 in 42.2 overs, need 11 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
14.41 IST: FOUR! The Indians are doing it here in style. IND 227/3 in 42 overs vs NZ (234-all out)
14.33 IST: FOUR! Cracking shot. 50 partnership between Ambati Rayudu and Dinesh Karthik. Short delivery, Karthik pulls it over mid-wicket for a boundary. India are racing away with the game. India 218/3 in 40 overs, need 26 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
14.29 IST: FOUR! Two boundaries from Boult’s over. CLOUT! Another short ball, mercilessly pulled over mid-wicket for a boundary! 11 from the over. Not a successful return from Boult. India 212/3 in 39 overs, need 32 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
14.24 IST: 200 up for the visitors! FOUR! What a shot! Full and outside off, Karthik leans and drives it through the covers. The ball races away. India 201/3 in 38.1 overs, need 43 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
14.15 IST: SIX! Ho ho ho! Rayudu is in full flow. A length ball outside off, Ambati comes down the track and slaps it over covers for a biggie! India 192/3 in 35.3 overs, need 52 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
14.07 IST: Drinks break. A couple of Indian wickets have been lost, with the two set batsmen sent back by Santner and Boult. But looking at the bigger picture, India are only 3 down with just 66 runs to win. 96 balls still remain, you’d still back the Men in Blue to win. Unless, of course, something dramatic happens. ISH SODHI is back on. 4-0-26-0 so far.
14.04 IST: Tidy stuff from Bracewell, just a single from the over. Aims the top of off stump with a length ball, Karthik is perfectly behind the line as he meets it with the full face. India 178/3 in 34 overs, need 66 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
13.57 IST: OUT! Trent Boult removes Virat Kohli for 60. That is a stunner from Henry Nicholls! The best batsman from either side of the game has been dismissed by stingers in this game. Williamson earlier, by Pandya. Now, it is Nicholls. Full and wide outside off, Kohli reaches out and plays a cracking cover drive. Everything looks so good about that shot – the footwork, the timing and the poise – only the result is not favourable. Kohli does not bother keeping the ball down and for a second it seems it is a wise decision – till Henry Nicholls leaps and takes a terrific two-handed catch. Quick wickets for New Zealand then. Do they still have a chance? 76 more needed from 113 balls. India 168/3 in 31.2 overs, need 76 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
13.52 IST: FOUR! Fine shot again, another boundary from the over. Full and outside off, Rayudu goes over cover and gets a boundary! IND 168/2 in 31 overs vs NZ (234-all out)
13.49 IST: FOUR! Up and over! Good use of the feet. Tossed up on off, Rayudu comes down the track and plays it over covers. The fielder chases it and slides but fails to stop it. The ball was racing away to the fence.
13.43 IST: OUT! Mitchell Santner provides NZ the much-needed breakthrough, Rohit Sharma falls for 62. Beautiful bowling by Mitchell Santner. Nothing Rohit could do about it once he came so far down. Santner slows it up and bowls it short outside off, it turns away and the slowness of the ball does Rohit in. He swings across the line and misses it completely. Latham completes the formalities as the batsman slips too. The partnership of 113 comes to an end. India 152/2 in 28.5 overs, need 92 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
13.33 IST: FIFTY for VIRAT KOHLI! The Indian captain finally converts a start in the series, he must feel mighty pleased with his knock. Short and flat outside off, Kohli goes deep inside the crease and slaps it down to long on for a single. India 143/1 in 26.1 overs, need 101 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
13.28 IST: SIX! Not off the middle, but it’s enough to sail all the way. Short ball into the body, Kohli swivels and pulls it off the top edge over fine leg. The fielder there leaps but can’t reach it.
13.23 IST: FOUR! Deliberately done. Well play, VK. Angling across on a length, Kohli opens the bat face and runs it through the right of the keeper for a boundary. India just need 114 runs in 156 balls. IND 130/1 in 24 overs vs NZ (234-all out)
13.20 IST: SIX! BANG! That’s outta here! Bowl short to him and you’ll be punished. Into the body, Rohit rocks back and pulls it with all his power over mid-wicket for a biggie.
13.15 IST: FIFTY! Rohit Sharma slams 39th half-century in India colours. Gets there in comfortable fashion. Just eases it to long on and takes a single. He struggled a bit early on, but has found his rhythm now. India 118/1 in 23 overs, need 126 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
13.12 IST: FOUR! Shot. A Rohit Sharma special. He picks up the length pitched slightly short, so camps back and heaves it over mid-wicket for a boundary. IND 112/1 in 21.3 overs vs NZ (243-all out)
13.04 IST: FOUR! Terrific shot! Full and outside off, Kohli gets down and flicks it over mid-wicket for a boundary! 50-RUN STAND IS UP, in decent time. India 93/1 in 18 overs, need 151 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
12.56 IST: DRINKS BREAK. India cruising through, as expected. The run-scoring is a bit difficult but the target is not that high which could make life uneasy. Milking the singles and hitting the odd boundary here and there should be enough. What would be interesting to see is – does Kohli shuffle with his batting line-up today. India 80/1 in 17 overs, need 164 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
12.46 IST: SIX! High and handsome! So easily done. Excellent footwork. Tossed up outside off, Rohit comes down the track, does not get too close to the ball and lofts it through the line, over long off! 177 more needed from 119 balls. Rohit moves to 30 from 41 deliveries. India 72/1 in 15 overs vs New Zealand (243-all out)
12.35 IST: FOUR! No stopping this one! The length is short again but Virat Kohli does not miss. Gets on top of the bounce and punches it between cover and point. India 57/1 in 12.3 overs. need 187 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
12.25 IST: FOUR! Bracewell errs in line and pays the price for it. Sprays it on the pads, Rohit moves inside the line and tickles it fine down the leg side for a boundary. IND 43/1 in 9.2 overs, need 201 runs to win vs NZ (243-all out)
12.20 IST: OUT! Trent Bould removes Shikhar Dhawan for 28. Boult strikes and breaks this dangerous opening stand. Good breakthrough for New Zealand. A length delivery around off, moving away from the batsman, Dhawan plays away from his body without any foot movement and gets a thick edge behind. It goes straight to Ross Taylor at first slip who makes no mistake in taking it. Shikhar was looking dangerous out there, New Zealand will be happy to see his back. IND 39/1 in 8.3 overs, need 205 runs to win vs NZ (243-all out)
12.13 IST: FOUR! So, after 13 balls, a run is scored. Dhawan finds the fence here. Too full and wide outside off, he reaches out to it and crashes it through the covers. India 35/0 in 7 overs. need 209 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
12.04 IST: FOUR! Was there glove? Seems like it. Dhawan survives. What a ball from Trent Boult. Hits the deck hard, a bumper, Dhawan is completely taken by surprise. He rises, fends at it awkwardly, it goes off his gloves and over the keeper’s head. A boundary results. India 31/0 in 4.3 overs. need 213 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
11.56 IST: FOUR! Make that three in a row. This has been productive over for India. Dhawan is timing the well so well. Swings back in on middle, he closes the face and flicks it through mid-wicket to find the fence again. 13 runs off the over. India 16/0 in 2 overs. need 228 runs to win vs New Zealand (243-all out)
11.55 IST: FOUR! Two in two from Dhawan’s bat! Off the back foot this time. Short of a length outside off, Dhawan stands tall and offers a firm punch through cover-point. No chance for the chasing fielders to stop it. IND 12/0 in 1.5 overs vs NZ (243-all out)
11.49 IST: Good first over from Boult, just 3 from it. Full and around off, swinging in, Shikhar looks to defend but the ball swings in late and hits the pads off the inside edge. India 3/0 in 1 over vs New Zealand (243-all out)
11.45 IST: Welcome back for the chase. The players are strolling towards the centre. Not a mountain to climb for Team India but it will be interesting to see whether the New Zealand’s bowlers nip out a couple of quick wickets to thwart India’s designs? Or will it be an easy run-chase for the visitors? Rohit Sharma and Dhawan are at the crease. Rohit is on strike. Trent Boult with the new cherry. Two slips and here we go… .
11.20 IST: New Zealand may have their highest score of this series, but it still might not be enough. It’s been another good show by India with the ball, especially after being asked to bowl. Rocked the top order early and were right on top. But, Taylor and Latham took things in their side and added 119 runs between them, with the former missing out on a ton and the latter stroking a fifty. Nothing before and nothing after came after them. It was a rather toothless batting display once more.
11.17 IST: Another dominating performance by #TeamIndia!
11.15 IST: OUT! New Zealand 243-all out vs India at Bay Oval. A slower length delivery outside the line of off stump, Trent Boult backs away and throws everything at it. Gets a fat top edge which balloons towards short third man. Shami comes under it and takes it. Taylor 93, Shami 3/41, Pandya 2/45 | Catch live cricket score and updates from 3rd ODI here..
11.13 IST: OUT! Kohli effects a run-out of Doug Bracewell, who departs for 15. Quick wickets for India. Will New Zealand even last the full 50 overs? Boult pushes this towards short mid-wicket and Bracewell takes off, when there’s no run to be had. Kohli gets to the ball quickly, runs to the stumps and takes the bails off. Easily done. New Zealand 239/9 in 48.1 overs vs India
11.12 IST: OUT! Shami removes Sodhi for 12. India Captain makes amends of the drop with an easy catch this time. Cost his side just two runs more. Shami bowls it fuller and slower around off, Sodhi slogs it straight down Kohli’s throat at long on. He takes it safely this time. NZ 239/7 in 48 overs vs IND
11.09 IST: SIX! That’s gone many miles! Finally connects with one. Short of a length in line of the stumps, Ish Sodhi camps back and muscles the heave over mid-wicket for a maximum. New Zealand 237/7 in 47.4 overs vs India
11.07 IST: Tidy stuff from Bhuvi at the death, 5 runs from the over. He fired a yorker fired on middle and leg, Doug digs it out through mid-wicket and changes ends. NZ 230/7 in 47 overs vs IND
10.57 IST: OUT! Mohammed Shami removes Ross Taylor for 93. No century for Ross Taylor. How disappointing, but a terrific knock nonetheless, once again. He’s stood tall when his team’s been under the pump. Length delivery around off, some slight movement away, Taylor looks to run it down but gets an edge behind. Karthik takes it and India celebrate. Rosco, however, takes the DRS as he thinks he hasn’t edged it, from the looks of it. And that it’s gone off the pad? Anyway, replays roll in and show there is a definite edge. New Zealand 222/7 in 45.1 overs vs India
10.53 IST: FOUR! Top edge and over the keeper’s head. Taylor moves into the 90s in a streaky manner. Slower one around off, the batsman looks to slog but it goes off the edge and across the fine leg fence for a boundary.
10.51 IST: FOUR! Poor line from Bhuvi and he’s paid the price for it. Angling down, Taylor flicks it down to fine leg. Nobody out there, so a boundary results. NZ 214/6 in 44 overs vs IND
10.45 IST: FOUR! It’s a boundary but a fine effort from Dhawan in the deep. Was too far away from him, but a fine effort nonetheless. Bracewell lofts it from his crease over cover-point. Shikhar in the deep flies to his left but can’t get to it. NZ 206/6 in 43 overs vs IND
10.38 IST: OUT! Pandya picks up his second, Mitchell Santner departs for 3. New Zealand 198/5 in 41.3 overs vs India
10.28 IST: OUT! Hardik Pandya removes Henry Nicholls for 6. Gloved behind! Nicholls was safe on the previous ball but js is gone now. The short ball, down the leg side, Henry looked to pull but was cramped for room. Only managed to glove it behind. Easy catch for Karthik. A couple of quick wickets for India. NZ 191/5 in 39.3 overs vs IND
10.25 IST: FOUR! Short and outside off from Bhuvi, Taylor cuts it hard but the ball goes off the outside edge towards third man. New Zealand 187/4 in 39 overs vs India
10.20 IST: Big Wicket for Team India!
10.16 IST: OUT! Latham Departs for 51, Yuzvendra Chahal picks up his second wicket. Holes out in the deep! India get the breakthrough at last. The 119-run stand is broken. A similar shot to how Latham has been playing so far. Coming down the track and taking the ball on the full. One occasion, he got a biggie. This time though, the timing is not quite there. Simple catch for Ambati Rayudu at deep mid-wicket. The moment Latham connected his flick, he knew and admonished himself. A platform has been set though. New Zealand 178/4 in 37.3 overs vs India
10.15 IST: FIFTY! Tom Latham slams 13th half-century for Black Caps. 4th vs India. Comes down the track again, converts the flighted ball into a full toss again. Works it through mid-wicket for a couple. Can he bat through? NZ 178/3 vs IND
10.09 IST: SIX! That is an outstanding shot from Latham. Chahal tosses this up on middle but Latham is straightaway down the track. Converts it into a low full toss and whips it over square leg for a biggie! New Zealand 168/3 in 35.3 overs vs India
10.03 IST: FOUR! Taylor plays it very fine. Landed outside off, Taylor cuts that very late and beats short third man. NZ – 156/3 in 34 overs vs IND
09.56 IST: ROSS THE BOSS FOR KIWIS!
09.51 IST: FOUR! 46TH ODI FIFTY FOR ROSS TAYLOR, 6TH VS INDIA! Yet another half century for the of-late consistent batsman. His 7th 50-plus score in last 9 knocks. Short and outside off, Taylor cuts it behind point and gets consecutive boundaries! New Zealand 143/3 in 31.3 overs vs India
09.49 IST: FOUR! Cracking shot. Short and outside off, Taylor rocks back and cuts it through the covers for a boundary! The stand moves to 80 from 90 balls. NZ 139/3 in 31.1 overs vs IND
09.32 IST: FOUR! CLUNK! 50-RUN STAND UP IN 63 BALLS! Good recovery from the Kiwis. Probably now, Taylor has decided to put the foot down. A long hop, outside off, Rosco pulls it through mid-wicket for a boundary! NZ 113/3 in 27 overs vs IND
09.26 IST: FOUR! Cheekily done. On a length outside off, Taylor opens the bat-face late and dabs it very fine. Kuldeep Yadav is stationed there but cannot get there! New Zealand 106/3 in 26.2 overs vs India
09.23 IST: 100 up for the hosts. MIX-UP, BUT SAFE! Ambati Rayudu is at it again. India have been deprived of a wicket. Short and outside off, Taylor cuts it towards backward point. He sets off for a single initially and seeing that Latham responds. But then Rosco sees Rayudu attacking the ball and stops. Now, Latham is stranded. However, Ambati fumbles and that allows the batsmen to complete the single. NZ 101/3 in 26 overs vs IND
09.15 IST: FOUR! FIRST BOUNDARY AFTER THE 12TH OVER. That is how good India have been. Full and around leg stump, Latham gets down and paddles it pretty fine. Ambati Rayudu gets across from fine leg, dives but is not able to stop it. New Zealand 91/3 in 24 overs vs India
09.07 IST: A pre-meditated paddle but controls it well, with Kuldeep slowing that very much and bowling it wide outside off. A couple to fine leg. 5 from Kuldeep’s over. NZ 80/3 in 22 overs vs IND
08.54 IST: Top edged and safe! Just over leg gully. Loopy and full on leg, Latham gets low to sweep and gets it off the top edge. It goes over the fielder and behind. Kohli from short fine leg runs after it and while trying to collect the ball, slips. The ball is thrown back in by the other fielder but luckily, the Indian skipper isn’t injured. Two taken. New Zealand 67/3 in 19 overs vs India
08.45 IST: Tourists are on top here at Bay Oval!
08.41 IST: OUT! Williamson departs for 28. Yuzvendra Chahal strikes but credit goes to Hardik Pandya for taking a blinder. Incredible stuff. And it’s the big fish Kane Williamson to depart. He was looking frustrated out there, and now his stay has come to an end. A lot of flight on leg stump, Williamson flicks it aerially towards mid-wicket. Pandya there dives full stretch to his left and takes a stunner. New Zealand in a real spot of bother, they’ve lost their talisman and skipper. New Zealand 59/3 in 16.2 overs vs India
08.35 IST: Another good over from Chahal, 3 from the over. Williamson goes the same way, he is slowly steadying the ship here for the hosts. Plays it late with an angled bat and guides it to third man. Single added to the total. New Zealand 58/2 in 15 overs vs India
08.23 IST: FOUR! 50 up for the Kiwis. That’s terrific. A boundary off the last ball again from Williamson. Spinning away a bit on off, shorter in length, Kane goes back and whips it with the wrists through mid-wicket. Amazing shot. New Zealand 51/2 in 12 overs vs India
08.13 IST: FOUR! Absolute quality from Williamson. Finishes the over with a boundary. Chahal once again bowls it slower through the air and slightly shorter in length, Williamson goes with the spin and times the punch through covers to perfection. No stopping that one. NZ 42/2 in 10 overs vs IND
08.09 IST: FOUR! Shot. That’s beautiful from the Kiwi captain. Doesn’t try to hit it hard at all. All about the timing. Full and straight from Bhuvneshwar, Williamson drives it back down the ground, past mid-off and sends it across the boundary line. NZ 36/2 in 9 overs vs IND
07.56 IST: OUT! Bhuvneshwar Kumar removes Martin Guptill for 13. Edged and gone! Now both the openers are back in the dressing room. India off to a fine start again with the ball. Bhuvneshwar throws it fuller and outside off, it’s there to be hit and Guptill goes for it too, but the slight away movement maybe becomes his undoing. He gets a feather behind and Karthik completes the formalities. New Zealand 26/2 in 6.1 overs vs India at Bay Oval.
07.53 IST: FOUR! That’s a fine shot. Williamson at his best. All class. It’s on a back of a length outside off, Kane rises on his toes and with a vertical bat, crunches it through the gap in the covers to find the fence.
07.51 IST: FOUR! Shot. Guptill looking in a good rhythm here today. Full and too straight in line once again, the opener flicks it well over mid-wicket and gets a boundary this time. In complete control throughout. New Zealand 22/1 in 5 overs vs India
07.49 IST: SIX! On the pads and Guptill goes big. Full on middle and leg, Guptill takes a step across and just drops it over mid-wicket. Has so much power behind it that the ball sails well over the fence for a biggie.
07.42 IST: Maiden from Bhuvi, this is brilliant stuff from the Indians. NZ 10/1 in 3 overs vs IND
07.37 IST: OUT! Mohammed Shami removes Colin Munro for 7. Gone this time! Munro survived a scare just a couple of balls ago, but pays the price this time. Can’t make the most of the life given to him. Ahead of a length and outside off, Munro’s eyes light up seeing the width. He looks to smash it through the covers but gets an edge to first slip where Rohit Sharma takes a straightforward catch. First breakthrough for India. Also, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson walks in at no.3. New Zealand 10/1 in 2 overs vs India
07.35 IST: FOUR! Munro takes the aerial route and gets the desired result! The beauty of the Powerplay, clear the infield and find the fence. Back of a length around off, Munro’s bat turns in his hands as he swings but it’s enough to clear mid-off.
07.34 IST: Decent first over from Bhuvi, just 4 runs from it. Full delivery in line of the stumps, Munro pushes it just wide of mid-off for a brisk run. NZ 4/0 in 1 over vs IND
07.28 IST: We are ready to begin. Colin Munro and Martin Guptill to start off, with Bhuvneshwar Kumar to take the first new ball. Here we go…
07.10 IST: India captain, Virat Kohli, says they would have batted first as well as he feels the surface will get slower and slower as the game progresses. Mentions though he doesn’t mind chasing as well. Wants to improve in the middle overs and personally wishes to up the scoring rate himself. Reckons that in the last game they should have got 340, but ended up with 325. Informs that there are two changes – MS Dhoni misses out with a sore hamstring and Dinesh Karthik comes in for him, and the other change is Hardik Pandya for Vijay Shankar. On Pandya, he adds that he brings great balance to the side as he’s a great help with bat, ball and in the field too. On his wrist spinners, he reckons they played good cricket in England and Australia and that’s largely down to Chahal and Kuldeep.
07.07 IST: New Zealand captain, Kane Williamson, says it’s a good surface which should play out well and slow down later on. Informs that there is one change as Mitchell Santner comes in for Colin de Grandhomme. States that given the surface, they wanted to play two spinners. Wants his players to bat longer and make full use of all the overs. Mentions that they want to focus on themselves and not worry about anything else. Ends by saying that it’s imperative to create pressure with bat and ball and that’s what they’ll try to do today.
07.00 IST: TOSS – Kane Williamson wins toss as New Zealand opt to bat against India in 3rd ODI at Bay Oval.
06.45 IST: Hello and welcome to our live cricket coverage of the third ODI between New Zealand and India from the beautiful Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui.
Brief Preview: After resounding back-to-back victories in New Zealand, visitors India will aim to seal the five-match One-Day International (ODI) series with another win on the third match at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui. India displayed a clinical effort as they defeated the hosts all ends up in the first rubber thanks to spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. In the second match, Yadav again shone with the ball, scalping four wickets. The batsmen also impressed in the second match as they posted a mammoth 324/4.
Skipper Virat Kohli will be rested for the final two ODIs and the subsequent T20I series against the hosts. Opener Rohit Sharma, who led India to the Asia Cup triumph a few months ago, will captain the Men-in-Blue in Kohli’s absence. The batting department is settled as all the players, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Ambati Rayudu, Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Kedar Jadhav performed brilliantly in the last match. India are yet to finalise their playing XI and there could be one change. All-rounder Hardik Pandya, who was recalled to the Indian side after his ban was lifted, could make the cut at the expense of Vijay Shankar. In both games of the series, the Indian quicks have also made inroads into the New Zealand middle-order before the 10th over which allowed the spinners to dominate. New Zealand, on the other hand, looked out of sorts in their own backyard. Both batters and bowlers seemed struggling to deliver when needed. The recently concluded Australia bilateral series and the ongoing limited over series in New Zealand has provided a good platform for the men in blue for preparations ahead of the upcmoing ICC World Cup 2019.
