Ravindra Jadeja claimed a five-wicket haul as India won the first Test against South Africa at Mohali. Chasing 218, South Africa were bundled out for just 109 in their second innings. The day three resumed with India on 125 for two. However after a brisk start Virat Kohli was dismissed and that brought the batting collapse. Cheteshwar Pujara was also removed after a well-made 77. From 161 to one India were bundled out for just 201. Spinners Imran Tahir and Simon Harmer picked four wickets each. South Africa tried to innovate and sent Vernon Philander as opener along with Dean Elgar. However, in second over Jadeja removed Philander. In next over Ravi Ashwin struck from other end and dismissed Faf du Plessis. Jadeja then inflicted further damage by dismissing South African captain Hashim Amla and left visitors 10 for three inside four overs.

Stiaan van Zyl and Simon Harmer tried their best with 42-run stand but Jadeja struck once again to open the gates for India. South Africa were eventually bowled out for 109. Jadeja finished with figures of 21/5 while Ashwin picked 39/3. Mishra and Varun Aaron chipped in with a wicket apiece as well.
