Shikhar Dhawan’s brilliant knock of 190 on the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at Galle on Wednesday put him at par with batting greats like Sir Don Bradman and Virender Sehwag.
Dhawan scored 126 runs between lunch and tea session as the Indian opener became only the third batsman after Bradman and Sehwag in the history of Test cricket to score 100-plus runs in a session twice in the career.
Dhawan scored 106 runs between lunch and tea break during his Test debut against Australia at Mohali in 2012-13. Bradman had scored 115 and 107 runs in one session twice against England during 1930 and 1934 Tests, respectively.
Sehwag too accomplished the feat twice in his outstanding career. He scored 109 runs in a session against Pakistan during the 2005-06 Lahore Test. Sehwag repeated his act in the 2007-08 Chennai Test against South Africa, scoring 108 runs in a session.
