India vs Thailand AFC 2019:  India captain Sunil Chhetri got India’s campaign at the much-awaited AFC Cup Finals going with a goal of a penalty in the 27th-minute of the encounter with Thailand. It was Chhetri’s 66th International goal. The ace striker was calm and cool when he stood with the ball ahead of him. He took a couple of steps and went to his favoured right side as the Thai goalie went to the other the ball had found the back of the net and the Blue Tigers got their campaign off to a dream start. Chettri has been carrying the hopes of a billion on his shoulders as India has tasted a lot of success in the year gone by.

India was looked well-oiled right from the early stages of the encounter and on a couple of occasions came perilously close to breaking the deadlock. The deadlock finally broke when Sunil Chhetri released Ashique Kuruniya with a quick throw-in. The winger’s cross hit a Thai hand and the referee pointed to the spot, immediately it was decided and a penalty was given.

Yet, at the time of filing the copy, the Thai had come back strong and equalised six minutes later as Dandga found the equaliser.

In the dying moments of the first half, the Indian skipper came close to finding a brace but his effort went just over the bar.
