India vs West Indies 1st ODI: Rohit Sharma remained unbeaten on 152, helping India thrash Windies by eight wickets to take a 1-0 lead. But, he also created a world record in the process. Rohit broke the record for the most number of 150 plus scores in ODI history. Rohit has six 150+ scores, whereas Sachin and Warner both have five.
This was not the only record he registered, he has now completed 4,000 runs in India in international cricket – in just 87 innings – second fastest batsman to do so, he is just behind Sunil Gavaskar (86 innings). Rohit is also number three in the list of sixes hit by openers in ODI history, he is behind Chris Gayle and Sanath Jayasuriya.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma put on a 246-run stand which is the fourth highest by any Indian pair in ODI cricket. Kohli and Rohit now have the most number of double century partnerships in ODIs.
Earlier in the day, Kohli won the toss and asked the touring Windies to have a bat. They lost an early wicket but Shimron Hetmyer’s 106 off 78 balls and Kieron Powell’s 51 off 39 balls meant the visitor’s got to a score of respectability. They set a target of 323 for India to chase. Yuzvendra Chahal with three wickets was the pick of the Indian bowlers.
The deadly duo of Kohli and Rohit have the second most century stands for India while chasing in ODIs. They have eight to their name. Surely, there cannot be a better sight in world cricket when the duo are on song. They were doing all the carnage with utmost ease and without breaking into a sweat.
