India vs West Indies 1st Test Rajkot: Prithvi Shaw to Make Debut, Becomes Second Least Experienced First Class Player to Make National Debut After Sachin Tendulkar

India vs West Indies 1st Test Rajkot: India announced a 12-member side for the first Test against West Indies at Rajkot. The big talking point was the selection of Prithvi Shaw over Mayank Agarwal. With it being now confirmed that Shaw will open with KL Rahul and become the 293rd Test cricketer for India. The 18-year-old became the second least experienced first-class player to debut for India after Sachin Tendulkar. Prithvi Shaw (14 FC matches) is the least experienced ‘Batsman’ to make Test debut for India since Sachin Tendulkar (9 FC matches).

Earlier, Shaw was also seen having a net on the eve of the first Test.

Meanwhile, after a splendid debut, Hanuma Vihari was ignored, whereas he could have played as the third spinner, but Kohli went with Kuldeep Yadav. Also, Mayank Agarwal was not picked. Kohli too is making a comeback into the national side after taking a break from the Asia Cup.

This Test will be played at Rajkot, where, given the history, a lot of runs are on the cards. The pitch is traditionally a batter’s dream and also assists spinners.

In all likelihood, it seems there is going to be a toss-up between Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur as only one player will make the final XI.

The squad:

Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), R Ashwin, R Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Md. Shami, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur
