India vs West Indies 1st Test: The team selected for the West Indies series clearly shows that India is thinking ahead and Australia tour is the big one they are eyeing after a debacle in England. Does that mean it is the end of the road for Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay in red-ball cricket? India recently announced a 15-man squad for two-match Test series against West Indies, which will begin from October 4.

Things changed for Dhawan in a week, and all it took was changing the colour of his jersey from white to blue. Dhawan lived a fairytale in the Asia Cup, also bagging the Man of the Series. In England, not so long ago, it seemed his feet had been frost-bitten as it did not seem to move at all and he became a leg before wicket candidate on quite a number of occasions. Out of his eight Test innings in England, he managed to score a paltry 162 runs. Whereas, in the Asia Cup he scored 342 runs in five matches, including two centuries.

Despite getting ample opportunities, Dhawan keeps on failing to perform outside the sub-continent for India in white clothes.

Meanwhile, Murali Vijay had already been out of the squad since the third Test against England, he scored only 24 runs out of 4 innings. He even faced a backlash in South Africa, as he scored only 102 runs in 6 innings. With both the cricketers 30+, it seems commentator Harsha Bhogle seems to believe that it could be the end of the road for the two.

He also went on to lavish praise for young turks Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw.

Adding to the fact that, Murali Vijay was already replaced by Prithvi Shaw for the last two Tests against England. Though he didn’t get a chance to play in any of the Tests, he sure got a priceless feeling of things in the Indian dressing-room.

On the other hand, Mayank Agarwal who had remained consistent for India ‘A’ throughout quadrangular series and Tri-series, finally got a maiden call-up for the series replacing Dhawan. Recently, he had played an innings of 90 runs for Board President’s XI against West Indies in a two-day practice played in Vadodara.

If this move from the selectors will go successful, then we’ll definitely see the new opening Test pair for India in future.

Now, India has three openers in the mix in KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, and Mayank Agarwal. It is going to be a tough choice for Kohli, which combination he should go for? Two of them are totally inexperienced to play in the conditions like Australia.

Here’s a full squad of India:
Virat Kohli (captain), KL Rahul, Prithvi Shaw, Mayank Agarwal, Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane (vc), Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur.
