Team India was at their rampant best during the two-match Test series against West Indies, the hosts not only whitewashed the Caribbean men but also outplayed them in all departments of the game. With the Test series done and dusted, the focus has now been shifted to the limited-overs contest that begins with a five-match ODI rubber between India and Windies, starting on October 21 in Guwahati.

The first ODI of the series will be held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. Team India geared up for the opening fixture with a “light warm-up” session as the likes of Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, KL Rahul, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami were seen getting involved in a game of football.

On Friday morning, India captain Kohli, Dhoni and second Test hero Umesh were among some of the players who participated in the team’s first practice session. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) uploaded some pictures of the practice session on their official Twitter account as the players treat themselves to light football drills. After opting to rest during the Asia Cup, Kohli is returning to India’s limited-overs setup, he will take over the captaincy hat from Rohit Sharma, who led the men in blue to a brilliant win in the continental competition.

BCCI announced the squad for the first two ODIs last week – the inclusion of in-form Rishabh Pant grabbed the headlines. With Dhoni struggling to score runs in the Asia Cup, Pant, who was brilliant with the bat in the longest format, has been added as the second-choice wicketkeeper in the team. After scoring his maiden ton in the 5th Test against England in September, Pant scored 184 runs in two innings at an average of 92, against West Indies, at a strike rate of 84.40.

Post a good outing in Asia Cup – all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has managed to keep his place in the India squad. The first-choice opening pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan will also return to action after missing out from the Test series against Windies.
