India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 3 at Hyderabad: Young Rishabh Pant’s dream run in Test cricket was cut short as he was dismissed for another 92. He was out for the same score at Rajkot as well. He walked into the middle at the dismissal of Virat Kohli for 45. Pant initially took his time in the middle, but once he got set, he started playing his natural game, which is to attack. It seemed like Pant celebrated his maiden ODI call-up with this ton. Earlier, Prithvi Shaw missed out on his second consecutive Test century when he was dismissed for 70. Pant, along with Rahane stitched a 146-run partnership at stumps on Day 2. But, Rahane departed for 80 to Holder and in the same over India lost Jadeja as well. Earlier, Pant also took a liking to Warrican, who was smashed for consecutive sixes on Day 2. For the wicketkeeper, it was more about brute power, and his back-to-back sixes off left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican (1/76) was a testament of that, who had till his arrival had decent figures including the wicket of Shaw. There was a steer and sweep and a slog sweep off the senior leg-spin bowler.
Pant now has scores of 115, 92 and now this century in his last three Test innings. It seems India has found Wriddhiman Saha’s replacement, but it is still too early to confirm that.
Meanwhile, young Pant’s approach also gave Rahane time to build his innings even though he never looked in control. However going to Australia, India needed its vice-captain to get some runs and to his credit he hung around to do the needful.
At the time of filing the copy, India was 322/7.
