India vs West Indies 3rd ODI at Pune Match Report: Indian middle-order frailties were exposed again as Windies went on to level the five-match ODI series by winning the third ODI by 43 runs. India captain Virat Kohli slammed his 38th ton, but that went in vain and it was the same old story for India, as over-reliance on one-man backfired. This is one loss that should teach India a lot going into the remaining ODIs. But one thing for sure, this win by Windies has brought the series alive. Apart from Kohli, no one else made any contribution of substance.

The openers failed as Rohit (8) and Dhawan (35), could not capitalise on the start. In the middle order, Rayudu (22), Rishabh Pant (24) and MS Dhoni (7) did not go on to get something big along with Kohli and that hurt India. The application by the middle-order is questionable and that is a worrying factor for the men in Blue who aspire to win the 2019 ICC World Cup.

Earlier in the day, India won the toss and opted to bowl first. India got early wickets, but Shai Hope’s 95, Nurse’s 40 off 22 balls helped Windies get to a respectable 283, but that did not look good enough in front of a star-studded Indian batting. But some good bowling and picking wickets at regular intervals helped Windies target of 283 looks bigger than it was.

It was good to see Jasprit Bumrah making a comeback in the side hit top rhythm straightaway. He picked up four wickets for 35 runs in his stipulated 10 overs.

India takes on Windies in the 4th ODI on Monday, which is expected to be a mouthwatering clash after tonight’s game.
