After bundling out West Indies for 162, the home team ended first day at 121 for 2 with opener KL Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill unbeaten on 53 and 18 respectively.
Mohammed Siraj was the pick of the Indian bowlers claiming 4/40 while record-breaking Jasprit Bumrah snapped up 3/42. Kuldeep Yadav, playing his first Test after more than a year, claimed 2/25.
