India ended day two of the first Test against the West Indies at 448 for 5, taking a strong lead of 286 runs, thanks to centuries by KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, and Ravindra Jadeja on Friday.

Jadeja (104*) and Washington Sundar (9*) were unbeaten at the end of play. Jadeja and Jurel built a solid 206-run partnership for the fifth wicket, putting the home team in a commanding position.

For 24-year-old Jurel, this was his first-ever hundred in Test cricket.

Earlier in the day, KL Rahul scored a well-made 100 before getting out shortly after lunch.

India had resumed at 121 for 2 and lost captain Shubman Gill (50) in the morning session. Rahul was dismissed soon after the break.

On day one, India had bowled out the West Indies for just 162.

Brief scores:

West Indies 1st innings: 162 all out
India 1st innings: 448/5 in 128 overs (KL Rahul 100, Dhruv Jurel 125, Ravindra Jadeja 104*; Roston Chase 2/90)

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: Dhruv Jurel is out now, with Pierre taking his first-ever Test wicket. Jurel tried to drive the ball through extra cover using a slightly open bat face, but it took the edge and the keeper caught it. Still, a fantastic knock from Jurel. He was just starting to speed up his scoring when he got dismissed. As he walked back, Jadeja gave him a handshake to show his appreciation. While the West Indies bowling hasn’t been top-class, you can only perform against the team in front of you and Jurel has done an excellent job.

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: During commentary, Sunil Gavaskar mentioned that Jurel could be a good option for India at number three in the future. That seems like a reasonable idea based on how well Jurel has performed so far. It won’t be easy for Gautam Gambhir and the coaching team to leave him out once Rishabh Pant is fit again. Since that batting position is still available and Sai Sudharsan hasn’t had a chance to bat yet, it’s a move worth considering. As of now, India hasn’t crossed the 400-run mark in this innings.

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: Dhruv Jurel hits a boundary through mid-wicket off Roston Chase to reach his first-ever Test century. It hasn’t been a smooth journey for him. He had to sit out while Rishabh Pant was part of the team and waited patiently for his turn. Once given a chance, he grabbed it with both hands. Jurel has shown solid skills and a calm mindset, doing well for India A and performing strongly in Ranji Trophy matches too. After this knock, the Indian team may need to find a spot for him in the playing XI.

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: Jurel has now crossed 80 runs. Last year, he scored a brilliant 90 against England in Ranchi. India was in big trouble when he came out to bat, but his stand with Kuldeep Yadav in the first innings helped India get closer to England’s score and set up a memorable victory that won them the series. Jurel has always shown strong mindset and skill, but the challenge is finding a place for him in the team. With the way Gautam Gambhir is choosing the playing XI, there aren’t many spots open for new batters.

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: The fast bowlers are done for now, and Roston Chase is making some bowling changes. He’s brought himself on to bowl, and from the end where Jayden Seales was bowling, he’s given the ball to Justin Greaves. But Greaves hasn’t really done much on this pitch. It’s not a bad idea to have someone who can bowl tightly and control the run rate, but the West Indies have too many players like that, ones who can just keep things steady but don’t really take wickets. Akeal Hossain, a skilled spinner, is currently playing in a T20I series in Nepal. We’ll never know if things would have been different had he been part of this match.

India vs West Indies 1st Test, Day 2 Live Score: The match has slowed down a lot now. The West Indies aren't really trying hard to take wickets, and the Indian batters have also stopped playing aggressively. Before the Tea break, Ravindra Jadeja was stepping out of his crease and hitting the ball straight down the ground quite often. But after Tea, the game has become more slow and steady. Looking at how things are going, it makes you wonder if India is planning to declare their innings today. The longer the West Indies stay out in the field during this Test, the more it will help them get used to playing, especially with the next match coming up in Delhi, where the weather might be a bit cooler than here.

MS Dhoni did it against Bangladesh in Mirpur in 2007, Rishabh Pant repeated the spectacle against England in Chennai in 2021, Washington Sundar joined the list against England at The Oval in 2025, and most recently, Ravindra Jadeja accomplished it against the West Indies in Ahmedabad in 2025.

India vs WI 1st Test, Day 2 Live Scores and Updates: Dhruv Jurel is inching closer to his half-century, but the big question is—can he go on to score his maiden Test century? The conditions look favourable. The sun is shining, the pitch is largely flat apart from some turn for the spinners, and India’s intent is to bat long, giving Jurel the best chance to convert this start into a memorable hundred.
