Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored his seventh Test century as India took control on the first day of the second match against West Indies, ending the day at 318 for two on Friday.
India, leading the two-match series 1-0, chose to bat first after winning the toss. Jaiswal was not out on 173 runs from 253 balls when the day’s play finished at Arun Jaitley Stadium.
Sai Sudharsan, given an important chance at the No. 3 spot by the selectors and team, played well and scored 87 runs from 165 balls. KL Rahul got out early after scoring 38.
At the end of the day, captain Shubman Gill was batting alongside Jaiswal with 20 runs.
Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took both wickets for the West Indies, finishing with 2 wickets for 60 runs in 20 overs. The West Indies had another tough day after losing badly in the first match in Ahmedabad.
India 1st innings: 318 for two in 90 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 173 not out, Sai Sudharsan 87, Shubman Gill 20 not out; Jomel Warrican 2/60).
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: It was a great day for Jaiswal and India from start to finish. Jomel Warrican took both wickets for the West Indies, which was all they could manage today. The visitors began well and bowled accurately in the first session, but their performance dropped a lot in the second and third sessions. Jaiswal took advantage of this and scored faster in the second session, while Sai Sudharsan played an important innings that will help him keep his spot in the Indian Test team. Shubman Gill wasn’t really challenged during his 68 balls today, and he will be hoping to score big tomorrow after missing out in the first Test.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Jomel Warrican will bowl now. Jaiswal is batting on 173 from 253 balls, while Gill has 20 from 62. Their partnership has reached 67 runs from 123 balls, with Jaiswal scoring most of the runs, even though Gill has faced more balls. West Indies have taken two wickets today — let’s see if they can add another and make it three.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Shubman Gill accidentally bumped into West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, almost like a rugby tackle. Phillip is bowling the 85th over. Jaiswal flicks the fifth ball to midwicket and runs for a single. The throw comes to the striker’s end, but it’s a poor one. Gill is running wide of the crease, and Imlach moves into his path to catch the ball. It looks like Gill’s head and shoulder hit Imlach on his left side. Imlach needs some treatment on his fingers, and Gill holds his head. After some care, both are fine to continue. Gill then firmly defends the last ball of the over.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Just like he usually does, Jaiswal guides the second ball of the 82nd over behind square for a single to reach 150 off 224 balls. This is the fifth time he has scored more than 150 in Test cricket. Out of his seven Test hundreds, only two were less than 150. That’s an amazing record.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: India has now played 80 overs, which means the new ball can be taken. But West Indies have decided to keep Jomel Warrican bowling for the 81st over. It seems like they’re choosing to wait before using the new ball, just like they did in the Ahmedabad match.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Shubman Gill is taking his time to get set, while Jaiswal looks completely calm and in control. West Indies will hope to take more wickets after getting one in this session, but right now, Jaiswal doesn’t seem like he’s going to give them a chance — unless he makes an error on his own.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Sai Sudharsan has been dismissed. Jomel Warrican bowled a ball that spun sharply from outside the off stump, and Sai, who had been playing the flick shot well from the back foot all day, missed it this time. The ball looked like it was outside the line, but Sai chose to go for a big shot and ended up getting caught. He missed a chance to start his first century today, but he’s likely to keep his spot in the team for a few more matches. Now, Shubman Gill has come out to bat. The situation is perfect for him to score a big innings here.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Jaiswal is going through a quiet phase in his innings, where he slows down and becomes more defensive. He did the same earlier in the day, and now it looks like he’s in that slow patch again. It’s not just the West Indies — other teams should take note of this pattern. In Test matches, he tends to play very aggressively during some parts and then suddenly becomes cautious. Right now, he’s in a slower phase, but if he manages to get past it, the West Indies should be ready — because once he starts attacking again, it could be very damaging and hard to stop.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: It’s been 30 minutes, and things haven’t changed much. If anything, the West Indies have improved a little, but still not enough to create a real chance. Jayden Seales has bowled well since the break and really deserves a wicket for his hard work — not just in this match but also back in Ahmedabad, where he bowled well but didn’t get much reward. His stats took a hit during the middle session today, but that’s something fast bowlers often face, especially in places like the subcontinent. It’s all part of the learning process for him.
India vs West Indies 2nd Test Day 1 Live Score: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s century has put India in a strong position early in the Test. Sudharsan is also batting well and approaching his maiden Test hundred. West Indies bowlers have struggled to make an impact.
