India won the five-match T20I series against Australia 2-1 after the fifth and final game was called off due to rain on Saturday. Sent in to bat, India got off to a flying start with openers Abhishek Sharma (23* off 13 balls) and Shubman Gill (29* off 16 balls) scoring quickly.
However, Play was stopped for over two hours because of lightning and heavy rain, and the match was eventually abandoned. Abhishek Sharma was dropped twice by Australia and became the fastest batter to reach 1,000 T20I runs in balls faced. Shubman Gill impressed with four boundaries in a single over. India captain Suryakumar Yadav and coach Gautam Gambhir have now led the team to five straight bilateral T20I series wins.
Earlier, Australia had chances to dismiss Abhishek early but missed them. Glenn Maxwell dropped a simple catch in the first over, and Ben Dwarshuis spilled another when Abhishek was on 11. Three balls later, Abhishek hit a huge six over mid-wicket.
Gill, meanwhile, targeted Dwarshuis, hitting three boundaries in the third over to keep India’s fast scoring going. The first T20I had also been washed out, Australia won the second match by four wickets, but India came back strongly to win the third and fourth games by five wickets and 48 runs, respectively.
