All-rounder Jemimah Rodrigues on Wednesday created a unique record as India women defeated Sri Lanka women by 13 runs in the first T20I and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Rodrigues became the first Indian women to hit three sixes in an over of an international game.

She smashed 36 off just 15 balls, which included 3 fours and3 sixes,  and helped India post 168-8 in their stipulated quota of 20 overs at the FTZ Sports Complex, Katunayake. Rodriques hit the three sixes in the fourth over of the Indian innings bowled by Sri Lanka’s Nilakshi de Silva. Apart from her, wicketkeeper-batswoman Taniya Bhatia (46) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (36) made noticeable contributions.

In reply, Sri Lanka women were bowled out for 155 in 19.3 overs. Apart from Eshani Lokusuriyage (45) and Yasoda Mendis (32), none of the other batters could stay much at the crease. For India, Poonam Yadav scalped four wickets while Harmanpreet and Radha Yadav picked up two-two wickets each.

The two teams will now play against each other in the second match of the series on Friday in Colombo.
