Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemimah Rodrigues came out with brilliant batting performance as Indian eves registered an emphatic 51-run victory in the final T20I over Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

There was no complacency from the Women in Blue, who had already sealed the series 3-0 with one game washed out before Tuesday’s game.

Earlier, electing to bat, India rode on Rodrigues’ 31-ball 46 and Harmanpreet’s swashbuckling 63 in 38 balls to set up 157-run target for the hosts. India’s innings started poorly as Smriti Mandhana was sent back by medium pacer Sripali Weerakkody for a duck in the first over. Athapaththu then dismissed Mithali Raj for 12 to leave India at 30/2 in 4.1 overs.

However, Rodrigues, whose sequence of scores before this game was 36, 57 and 52*and Kaur came to India’s rescue and took complete control of proceedings. Rodrigues got out in the 12th over, and thereafter none of the Indian batters, apart from the skipper, scored much.

In reply, Sri Lanka bowed down before the spin trio of Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav and Radha Yadav and were ultimately bowled out for 105 inside 18 overs. Poonam ended with figures of 3/18, followed by Sharma’s 2/18 and Radha’s 2/14.

India had won the ICC Women’s Championship one-day international series 2-1 prior to the T20Is.
