Indian Premier League 2019: So, is England captain Joe Root joining Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming season of the cash-rich Indian Premier League? At least former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s tweet drop hints. Ganguly recently took to Twitter and lauded the English captain after his brilliant performance in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. Root scored a brilliant 124 against the Lankans and Ganguly was impressed by the knock and the way he tacked spin on a track where the ball was turning square. His post read, “What a performance from Joe root and england on that surface of the best test hundreds one will see on a pitch which is turning square.” Also Read - Shahid Afridi, Jahangir Khan Come Forward to Help Minorities in Fighting Coronavirus Pandemic

So, what is making us jump to conclusions and assume Root is joining Daredevils? Well, the answer is if you check the tweet carefully you will realise he has tagged the owner of Daredevils, Parth Jindal. Now, that Gautam Gambhir has been released and they do not have an experienced captain to lead the young cricketers of Daredevils, Ganguly may have been suggesting him the way forward.

Daredevils also released international players like Glenn Maxwell and Jason Roy. With an overall strike rate of 127.68 in T20s, Root seems to be a good choice to lead Daredevils in the absence of Gambhir. At a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, Root may just prove to be the ingredient Delhi have been missing for 11 seasons. With Ganguly’s cue, we might see DD going all out for Root in IPL 2019 auction with Rs 25.50 crore in their bag.
