Indian Premier League 2019: It seems the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) plans to make the upcoming IPL player auctions the biggest ever, in terms of viewership and revenue. Usually, the auctions used to start from 10 am in the morning for the past editions but in all likelihood it will start from 3 pm to maximise primetime viewership. As per a report in The Mumbai Mirror, the auction will start at 3 PM and will end by 9:30 on December 18. The date has been strategically planned as December 18 is the day of the final day of the second Test between India and Australia at Perth.
What this does is that fans will not have to choose one from the two events but watch both one after the other. The auctions are set to take place in the pink city, Jaipur.
All the eight franchises have already finalsed their list of released and retained players, now all the franchises will look to fill in the blanks. All franchises would know where they stand, most franchises have retained the core group and now would look to complete the entire squad keeping the full season in mind and the conditions they would encounter.
Meanwhile, franchises would also be mindful when it comes to Australian players as they will not be around for the entire league because Cricket Australia has asked all players to join the national team for preparations for the ICC 2019 Cricket World Cup that is slated to take place in England and Wales next year.
The big players to watch out for at the auctions would be Gautam Gambhir who was dropped by Delhi Daredevils and Yuvraj Singh who was released by Kings XI Punjab franchise.
