Yes, you heard it right! Indian Premier League 2019 with kick off in March, instead of April.
Do you know why?
Well, the reason it has been preponed is because of the upcoming General Elections. According to reports, we believe it IPL will start at the end of March. Usually, IPL starts in the first week of April, so it is an advancement of a week. That should not bother players, we expect. It is not the first time that such a decision has been taken. In 2009, the entire IPL was shifted to South Africa while in 2014, the first 19 days of the tournament were held in UAE. Well, it seems this is not the only reason behind IPL staring a week ahead of their regular schedule. The 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup is also slated to be held next year, that could be another reason behind the decision.
As per a report in the Times of India, the next edition of IPL might start on March 29.
This is to give players time to prepare for ICC’s flagship event, that would be held during the English summer. The 10-team tournament (ICC Cricket World Cup) starts on May 30, BCCI will have to ensure that the tournament ends 15 days prior to the start of it, owing to Lodha recommendations. As per the recommendations a window of 15 days has to be given and hence the advancement of IPL 2019.
The final decision on this issue will be taken by BCCI once the Government of India decides the dates of the elections.
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings clinched the IPL 2018 which is also their third IPL title. CSK was making a comeback to IPL after a gap of two years hence the expectations were sky-high, but they lived up to the expectations and did not disappoint their fans.
