Atletico de Kolkata vs Kerala Blasters: Two-time finalists defeated Kerala blasters defeated two-time champions ATK by two goals as to win the first game of the Indian Super League 2018-19 campaign in the Salt Lake Stadium in Calcutta on Saturday.
Both the goals came in the second half and the duo of Slovanian Poplatnik and Stojanovic scored at the 76th and 86th minute of the game to win the match for Kerala Blasters.
In the first forty-five minutes of the ISL season five opener, the game was pretty much evenly balanced, one side attacked really well and the other side defended really well. The Kerala side dug- out attacks after attack, starting the game in an impressive fashion and creating plenty of chances. Lalruatthara was the star for Kerala as he dribbled down the left flank, creating a lot of problems for the ATK defense and some decent goal-scoring opportunities for his team, however, none of those chances were converted. Stojanovic also missed a chance in the earlier stages of the game to put his team at front. After the 20 minute mark, Poplatnik also had a chance, but that too went without a result.
ATK big chance came through Everton Santos who got the perfect technique to fire the ball but missed to find the net by inches.
Kokata’s Jayesh Rane missed another great opportunity to put his team ahead during the dying minutes of the first half, that went on to be costly for them in the second half because Kerala became more effective and clinical with their chances and found the net twice.
Kerala forward Slovanian Poplatnik scored the first goal of the season five campaign at the 76th minute to give his side the lead. The Yellows continued to attack and their lead was capitalized by Stojanovic ten minutes after the first goal.
