Andre Moritz
Indian Super League (ISL) team Mumbai City FC have expanded their portfolio of foreign players after roping in Brazil’s Andre Moritz on Friday. Manager Peter Reid already boasted significant attacking players on his roster with Lalrindika Ralte, Nadong Bhutia, Nicolkas Anelka, and Diego Nadaya and the attacking midfielder’s presence is likely to further bolster his side’s attacking prowess in the coming matches.
Moritz played for Internacional and Fluminese in Brazil before stints with Turkish clubs Kasimpasa, Kayserispor and Mersin Idmanyurdu. He then moved to England for a couple of seasons and plied his trade with Crystal Palace and Bolton Wanderers before signing for South Korean club Pohang Steelers last month.
Sunday’s opening game at the Salt Lake Stadium against Atletico de Kolkata could come too soon for the 28-year-old but he could certainly feature at the D.Y. Patil Stadium against Pune City FC on October 18. In other news, coach Reid has named Syed Rahim Nabi as the skipper while former German international Manuel Friedrich will assist the Indian defender with his experience. The 58-year-old former Everton player also hoped that Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg, who was suffering from a calf strain will be fit enough to play a part against the Kolkata based outfit.
“From the couple of weeks I have worked with the team, I have found him a natural leader, good communicator and a bubbly character within the dressing room. I think Nabi has great experience and knowledge of the game. Manuel Friedrich would be the vice-captain,” Reid explained.
