Mumbai City FC have suffered a huge blow in their quest to fight for the Indian Super League (ISL) title in the inaugural season after captain Syed Rahim Nabi was ruled out with an ankle injury for upto three weeks the club have confirmed. The 28-year-old had to be stretchered off the field with a problem in his ankle in the 39th minute of the opening match against Ateltico de Kolkata at the Salt Lake Stadium on Sunday evening and replaced by Nadong Bhutia.
The team’s manager Peter Reid had confirmed that Nabi, is a doubt for Mumbai City FC’s first home game at the DY Patil Stadium against state rivals FC Pune City next Saturday. An scan was scheduled for Monday but and the results were not as favourable as the 58-year-old manager hoped. The former East Bengal and Mohun Bagan star has a contusion (bruise) over his left foot after twisting the ankle joint.
The club have also confirmed that there is no fracture or ligament injury and that the midfielder has suffered a partial sprain. Nabi has been put under a knee cast and is currently under rehabilitation with the medical team. The duration of recovery means that he could be sidelined for four matches in total that also includes games against NorthEast United FC (24-Oct), Chennaiyin FC (28-Oct) and Kerala Blasters FC (2-Nov).
