Indian hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has been ruled out of the Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey tournament on Wednesday due to a knee injury.

The Indian skipper earlier on Tuesday said that he was not sure about his availability in the remaining tournament after suffering a defeat against Australia.

“I am not sure, but I will try to make it into the team,” Sreejesh said.

Sreejesh had arrived in Kuala Lumpur after India reclaimed the Asian Champions trophy hockey with a hard-fought victory against Pakistan.

“Injury is part of game – will definitely look after this and will do check-up with the doctors,” he said.

In the last game, where India suffered a 1-3 defeat to Australia, Sreejesh injured his knee in the first quarter of the match.

Sreejesh’s absence will hamper India’s campaign at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup and Akash Chikte will be his replacement. In three matches so far, India drew with Great Britain 2-2, beat New Zealand 3-0 and lost to Australia 1-3.
