Sports viewership on Television in India has soared to 46 billion impressions in 2018, it was revealed after a research conducted by Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) – a data collection firm.
2018 has been a successful year for the Indian sports fraternity highlighted by successful spells at the Asiad 2018, the ever-growing football scenario in the country, and the utterly dominating Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team. This boom has garnered an increase in television viewership of sports.
The Television Post Website, citing BARC India, reported the accurate figure of the week 46 of 2018, which represented an increase of 3 billion in contrast to 2017, when there were 43 billion impressions.
Among the sports which recorded growth were football, cricket, and wrestling, whereas Kabaddi recorded a plummeting figure.
The domination was unsurprisingly by cricket, where their share in the sports viewership marked an increase of seven percent in 2018.
Football has seen a dramatic rise of over four percent with England’s top flight football league, the Premier League recording the most youth audiences – with 51 percent under 30. The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup recorded a notable 43 percent share of viewership.
