Interestingly, it will be his first season in the cash-rich league as England players have generally been busy with international commitments during the IPL. But this year, England play no international matches in the month of April. England are lined up to play two ODIs against the West Indies (5 and 7 May) and then another three-match series against South Africa, starting 24 May. That makes them available till April 30. Stokes posted a photo on Instagram with three bats lined against the wall which read: “I’m 25 and still get a buzz from getting new bats,off to Pune to meet up with @punesupergiants next week can’t wait to get started 🏏🏏@newbalanceuk @redbulluk.”
Stokes has been a hit with cricket fans across the world and Pune will hope that he can put the stands on fire with his explosive hitting in the death overs and then return to pick wickets with the ball with his medium pacers.
Pune haven’t had the best journey in the IPL as they finished at the bottom end in their first season in 2016. In fact, the poor season saw the franchise strip MS Dhoni of captaincy duties and Smith has been appointed skipper going into this season.
