In 2018 Indian Premier League, all players will be sent to auction pool for the 11th edition of IPL. However, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Daredevils, and Sunrisers Hyderabad are in favour of retaining key players, which permits team owners to retain players by matching their auction price, reported the Times of India.
A ‘right-to-match’ option could be the only hope left for IPL teams to retain their big stars. However, it is unlikely to happen as IPL Governing Council may send all the players back to the auction pool without giving teams any chance to retain their key players.
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians want to retain their big players. However, Kings XI Punjab’s co-owner Preity Zinta had said otherwise as BCCI had told all teams that all players would be back in the auction poll without retention.
Meanwhile, two teams-Chennai Supers and Rajasthan Royals, who will join the IPL completing their two years suspension, have to rely on auction. CSK want to get back their old players like MS Dhoni, Dwayne Bravo, Suresh Raina, but the other teams are against Chennai Super Kings wish.
However, the IPL governing council hasn’t given any assurance to CSK, so the two-time champions have to buy players from the auction. Rajasthan Royals, however, are ready to buy players from the auction.
It was also learned that some Indian players are also backing the idea of retention. Whether IPL governing body will take into account or not remains to be seen.
