Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) lost to Mumbai Indians in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017. The match went right down to the last ball. Mumbai registered a one-run victory at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium.
During the final, RPS owner’s brother Harsh Goenka compared RPS skipper Steven Smith and MS Dhoni with iconic Bollywood movie Sholay’s leading characters Jai and Veeru.
In the famous Sholay movie, which was released in 1975, Amitabh Bachchan played the role of Jai while Dharmendra did the role of Veeru. Their understanding in the movie has won millions of hearts. The movie is regarded as one of the best movies in Indian cinema.
In the same tweet, Goenka compared Dhoni and Smith with the popular English comedian pair of Laurel and Hardy.
But, the at the end of the match RPS suffered one-run defeat to Mumbai Indians. While chasing 130 runs in 20 overs, RPS managed to score 128 runs in 20 overs.
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Johnson took two wickets in the final over, while young pacer Jasprit Bumrah played a crucial role taking two wickets in four overs.
As Mumbai Indians won their record third title RPS skipper Steve Smith’s fighting innings has gone in vain.
