Experienced South African batsman Hashim Amla believed that the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017 has become easy to accommodate for ‘orthodox’ batsmen like him. He also said that one can play big innings in a T20 format with proper cricketing shots.

The Kings XI Punjab opener Amla scored a brilliant 104 off 60 balls, which was comprised of five sixes and eight fours. However, his brilliant innings has gone in vain as Gujarat Lions defeated them by six wickets.

In T20 cricket, most of the players go for hitting sixes and fours in almost every ball. Amala said the format forced every player to get a way out to “maximize each ball”. Also read: India’s 15-man squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2017 announced

“Everybody who plays T20 cricket has to find a way of how to maximize each ball they face. You will find many examples of better cricketers who have been successful in T20 cricket without necessarily looking agricultural, as they say. They have played good cricketing shots and managed to get runs,” Amla said at the post-match press conference.

The 34-year-old batsman has so far scored 420 runs in 10 matches at an average of 60.  His success in IPL 2010 has become a big talking point. Also read: Mahela Jayawardene to play in T20 league in England

“So, I think over the ten years of IPL and T20 cricket around the world, I know it comes up every time someone who has got his runs who is not known or is not a massive six-hitter. But this has been happening for many years now. I think guys are becoming a lot more accommodating for players like that,” Amla said.

Kings XI Punjab will play their next game against Kolkata Knight Riders
