After the arrests of three persons in Kanpur related to illegal betting in an IPL match, more details are following with a former under-19 player too being involved.
According to an India Today report, the U-19 player is believed of having a role in tampering the Kanpur’s Green Park pitch where Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils played a match.
One of the arrested, Nayan Shah also stayed on the same floor in the hotel as the players of Gujarat Lions. Moreover, the Uttar Pradesh Police is investigating of a possible link to players of the Gujarat franchise.
Earlier on Thursday, UP Police had arrested three persons from Kanpur involved in illegal betting during the match.
After the arrests, the BCCI issued a statement: “The Anti Corruption Unit of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been tracking activities of certain individuals, as a result of which, three suspects were arrested.”
There is another match scheduled on May 13 at the same venue between Gujarat Lions and Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In 2013, the cash-rich league was marred by spot-fixing scandal with cricketers involved and leading to life ban on India pacer S Sreesanth. Two franchises, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals were subsequently suspended for two years after officials from both teams were found guilty of illegal betting.
