It was the opening match for both teams in the tournament and Gayle made history as he became the fastest to 4000 IPL runs in 111 innings. He also became the second foreign player to do so. The other player to reach that mark is David Warner. Gayle also joined AB de Villiers to register 31 half-centuries in the league which is the second highest for overseas players. His knock against the Royals comprised of four sixes and eight fours. He was dealing in boundaries and that got Twitter on fire as Gayle fans went berserk hailing him.
