IPL 2019: This IPL seems to be bringing the worst out of legends. First, it was Ashwin, then Kohli and then the most surprising — MS Dhoni. Dhoni, who is otherwise a cool customer seemed to have got angry after Murali Vijay dropped a catch at long-on. Defending a paltry 132, CSK needed wickets to stay in the hunt and pose problems for Mumbai. They brought about an opportunity when Suryakumar Yadav chipped a half-tracker from Chahar, Vijay got to the ball but could not hold onto it. Dhoni gave him a stern look from behind the stumps, which narrated what the CSK skipper felt about the drop.

Meanwhile, the drop proved costly as Suryakumar carried his bat through to take Mumbai into the finals by beating CSK by six wickets. Surya remained unbeaten on a brilliant 70*. With the win, Mumbai not only become the first team to make the 2019 finals but also the first team to beat CSK in four consecutive games in the history of the league.
“Somebody has to lose, things really didn’t go our way, especially batting. At home, we had to assess the conditions quickly, we have played 6 to 7 games on this pitch and should have read the pitch better, that’s the home advantage. We needed to know how the pitch behaves, would it be tacky? Is the ball coming on or not, those were the things we didn’t do well, I think the batting needs to get better,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation at Chepauk.
CSK finished in the top two which means they will get another shot at the finals when they take on the winner of Sunrisers Hyderabad and Delhi Capitals.
