The IPL 2026 player auction is expected to be exciting, with 350 players set to be picked on Tuesday, December 16. The auction will start at 1 PM UAE time and will take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. Fans can watch the live stream on official IPL digital platforms and follow the TV broadcast on major sports channels.
The auction includes 350 players divided into four groups. There are 16 Indian players who have already played international cricket and bring strong experience. Along with them are 96 overseas players with international caps, adding global appeal to the event. The biggest group is made up of 224 Indian players who are yet to play at the international level and are looking for their big opportunity. The list is completed by 14 overseas players without international experience, offering new talent from abroad.
These 350 players offer a good combination of experience, new talent, and international presence, setting the stage for an exciting season. With such variety, teams will look to balance seasoned players with promising newcomers to create strong squads. There are 77 open spots in total, including 31 reserved for foreign players. The highest base price is Rs 2 crore, and this year, 40 players have entered the auction at that price.

The BCCI said the auction will start with all the capped players, grouped by their roles-batters, all-rounders, wicketkeeper-batters, fast bowlers and spin bowlers, followed by the uncapped players in the same sequence.
Cameron Green, likely to be one of the most popular picks, is included in the first group of batters, along with Devon Conway, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Sarfaraz Khan, Prithvi Shaw, and David Miller. Venkatesh Iyer is listed in the first group of all-rounders.
Like in past years, there will be an accelerated round after the initial picks. This stage is likely to start after Player No. 70, Afghanistan’s Wahidullah Zadran. The first accelerated round will include players numbered 71 to 350. After this, teams can nominate any remaining or unsold players for another accelerated round.
