England cricket team will look to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series against home team Ireland when the two sides face off in the second game in Malahide on Friday. Jacob Bethell’s side are leading the series 1-0 after hunting down 197 to win for a four-wicket win in the first T20I game earlier this week.
In-form opener Phil Salt just missed out on his 5th T20I hundred by 11 runs and would have joined the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Rohit Sharma with five centuries. Salt has a strike-rate of 170 in T20I cricket and has scored 230 runs in his last two innings.
Bethell, meanwhile, started off his England captaincy career with a win under his belt. For Ireland, Lorcan Tucker and Harry Tector scored impressive fifties in the first game. The duo put on 123 runs for the 3rd wicket – Ireland’s best in this format surpassing 82 runs put on by Harry Tector and Gareth Delany.
It will be important for England to clinch the series after their 2-1 lost to South Africa last time around. When it comes to head-to-head between the two sides both sides have won 1 game each while a third one ended in no-result. A win for either side on Friday will break the deadlock.
It’s a damp start in Malahide but the ground staff are working hard.
