Ishan Kishan replaces Sanju Samson for the India A tour of England for tri-series including West Indies is ideal. So why do we say that? The 23-year old Samson failed the yo-yo fitness test and is the reason why he has been ruled out for selection. The selection was held in the National Cricket Academy a few days back. Even the seniors were present to take the fitness test. Among the seniors Mohammed Shami failed the test and was instantly replaced by Navdeep Saini. The seniors were undergoing the fitness test for the selection of the Afghanistan Test.
So why are we being harsh and stating it is the right move:
It is good to see a benchmark has been set for fitness and that fitness is being given utmost importance. The other international countries started this process earlier, like New Zealand, Australia and South Africa. Modern cricket is all about being fit and ready, Virat Kohli has highlighted this point over and over again. Finally it seems BCCI is coming down hard on players who did not give a lot of emphasis on fitness. What this sort of a culture does is that it raises the level, which in turn only benefits.
Samson got a Run, Give Kishan a go:
Young Kishan has been impressing everybody with his fearless brand of cricket and Samson one has to understand has been around and has got a long rope. Samson is 23 and has a long way to go. He is a brilliant prospect for the future, but it seems off-late his hunger for scoring runs has diminished. Something that got him recognised early on in his career. He has time on his side, and this period will help his retrospect about himself which is very important for him at this point of time in his career.
Kishan’s Form Gets Rewarded:
He has been in delightful form. He not only impressed in the recently concluded IPL season but also did a commendable job leading up to the IPL. His domestic record has been second to none, scored 484 runs in six Ranji Trophy games and followed up with 273 runs in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy. He continued his form and scored 313 runs from five games in Vijay Hazare Trophy. In IPL 2018, Kishan, playing for Mumbai Indians, scored 275 runs at a strike-rate of 149.45. Hence, the selection was always coming.
The legendary Rahul Dravid will be in charge of the team and certainly Kishan would benefit a lot under Dravid.
