Mumbai City FC and Atletico de Kolkata still remained unbeaten in the Indian Super League season 3, though the winning streak of hosts were ended by ATK as Javi Lara scored an important equaliser in the dying minutes of the game. Mumbai opened the game beautifully and they were attacking right from the kick-off whistle. They dominated the first half of the game and made some lethal attacks to put the pressure on visiting side. Finally, they got what they deserve as Mati Defederico gave the much needed lead to Mumbai. He unleashed a shot from distance and the left footed shot crept into the corner of goalpost. Mumbai could have doubled or in fact tripled their lead in the first half itself but they were denied by crossbar and poor finishing.
Second half of the game was all about Atletico de Kolkata as they kept the possession, played a passing game of football, made many decent attacks and kept Mumbai busy with defending. Mumbai came out on the back-foot in second half and they were completely dominated by the visiting side. Difficult to say that if it was home team’s poor strategy or a brilliant charging from Atletico de Kolkata that led Mumbai to play defensively in the second half as they failed to make any noticeable attack in the later 45 minutes of the game. Things were already getting bad for hosts but they got worst when Pronay was shown red card by the referee and Mumbai was down to 10 men in the 73rd minute of the game. It was a great advantage for Kolkata to play with one extra man on field and they finally capitalised on that when Javi Lara scored the comeback goal for visiting side in the 83rd minute of the game. He took the beautiful shot from outside the box and a defensive leg gets a massive ricochet to loop into the corner of the goal. Mumbai’s goalie didn’t have any chance to stop that and finally after repeated attack from ATK, hosts conceded a goal in dying minutes of the match. Mumbai City FC were completely under pressure from the beginning of second half even when they were leading at that time. Atletico put up a brilliant show in later 45 minutes of the game, they played like they had nothing to lose and get their fruit of all the hardwork in the form of equaliser. Finally game ended in a tie and Mumbai is now leading the points table with seven points from 3 games and Atletico de Kolkata sit third on the points table by bagging 5 points from their three games. Overall today’s game was very entertaining, good on pace and full of action.
