New Delhi: India ‘s shooter Amanpreet Singh wins a bronze medal in Men’s 50m pistol finals event of ISSF World Cup. He shot a score of 202.2 in the final to finish behind Serbia’s Damir Mikec (229.3) and Ukraine’s Oleh Omelchuk (228.0).
It was Amanpreet’s second final in 21 World Cups and he tasted his first success at the ISSF World Cup in March 2017, as he had clinched a silver medal in the 50m pistol event at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range. The event also saw the ace shooter Jitu Rai winning the Gold medal in the tournament.
Amanpreet’s latest victory came after a disappointing day for India as earlier, shooter Jitu Rai and Pooja Ghatkar failed to qualify for final of men’s 10m air pistol and women’s 10m air rifle respectively.
Rai, fresh from his gold medal in the air pistol mixed event along with Heena Sidhu, could not make the final of the men’s 10m air pistol and was placed ninth. The top eight make the cut.
However, a multiple medallist in top international events, Rai will also gun for glory in the 10m free pistol and 50m pistol in the coming days.
Also, India’s only hope Pooja Ghatkar in women’s 10m air rifle, finished ninth and failed to make the final.
Ghatkar’s series included scores of 101.5, 103.9, 102.2 and an improved 104.8 for a total of 412.4. The lowest qualifying score was 412.5 set by Norway’s Malin Westerheim. Ghatkar had opened India’s medal tally in the World Cup Stage 1 earlier in the year by winning a bronze in the same event.
