“Nothing will change overnight,” – Akash Choudhary’s calm response

Even after creating history, Akash Choudhary remained completely composed. He said,

“Nothing will change overnight because of this. I have to do what I have been doing so far – bowl for my team, take wickets, and bat according to the situation.”
Choudhary, who was born in Shillong, said that this achievement will definitely boost his confidence, but he wants to remain grounded.

Old record broken with eight consecutive sixes

Akash Choudhary achieved this amazing feat in a Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Arunachal Pradesh. He hit consecutive sixes in the overs of left-arm spinner Limmer Dabi and then off-spinner T. Mohit.
He explained,

“The pitch had low bounce and the ball was coming straight, so I thought hitting straight would be the easiest.”
In this way, he surpassed legends like Garry Sobers and Ravi Shastri, who had hit six sixes in first-class cricket.

From a humble background to a great achievement

Akash’s father is a welder and his mother a tailor, but this background never diminished his dreams. He said,

“The IPL auction might help, but I’m not focusing on that right now. I will do what is in my control – play well and focus on my performance.”
In 2022, he registered his name at a base price of ₹20 lakh, but no team bought him then.

Cricket journey and the road ahead

The 25-year-old Akash started with tennis ball cricket and gradually attracted the attention of selectors with his performances in school and zonal tournaments. In 2019, he made his debut for Meghalaya in all three formats. Now, his focus is on the next match.

“Our last league match is against Manipur. This match is very important if we want to reach the final. Our goal is to get into the Elite Group and stay there.”
