Chelsea Football club were recently crowned the Barclays Premier League champions for the 2014-15 season. While the West London side deservedly romped to the title, winning with an eight point margin, they also received some flak for their style. Mourinho’s is no stranger to his teams being branded as ‘boring’ but in the recent Chelsea Player of the Year awards, he addressed the styles of different teams play and the the strategy the Blues adopted to romp to their fourth Premier League title.
The Portuguese gaffer’s examples sounded like digs at other teams who value ‘philosophy’ and ‘style’ more than a culture of winning. With the help of a giant screen, Mourinho dishes our four teams with different approaches to the game. It seemed like he took a thinly veiled barb at Arsenal, who hit their stride only in the latter half of the season. He summed up his team as a one which tries to break teams down in defence and score one more goal than their opponents in attack. He also warned his team that defending the title would get tougher next season.
