The  Kabaddi World Cup 2016 is underway and has been quite a success thus far. The sport, Kabaddi, has been immensely popular here in India and now is looking to gain foothold internationally. The event, which started from October 7, is organised by International Kabaddi Federation (IKF). Total of 12 teams are taking part in the tournament. The teams have been divided into two groups of six teams each. India, Bangladesh, South Korea, Australia, England and Argentina are in Group A while Iran, Thailand, Japan, USA, Poland and Kenya are placed in Group B. India are looking at quite a sporting extravaganza with the Kabaddi World Cup upon us. Hopefully it will set the pulses racing. India are one country that has done their best to promote Kabaddi and no doubt are the favourites to lift the World Cup.

The Kabaddi World Cup will be played in a standard style and the tournament will have a round-robin format. Top two teams from each group will advance to semifinals. The final will be played on October 22. All the matches will be held at The Arena by TransStadia in Ahmadabad, Gujarat. The venue is the newly developed state-of-the-art multi-purpose stadium.

Last week, September 14, the tournament schedule and the logo was unveiled by Honble Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Vijay Goel. The logo is said to be derived from the natural heritage of Gujarat, the Asiatic Lion, which symbolises the ferocity of a Kabaddi defender and the agility of a raider. Also Read- 2016 Kabaddi World Cup: Participating nations, stats and other details

Here is the complete schedule of Kabaddi World Cup Schedule 2016 – 

Just like Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Star Sports has the official broadcast rights and will air the Kabaddi World Cup 2016 matches live. Star Sport will also provide free streaming of Kabaddi World Cup 2016 on its official website and Hot Star App. The matches will mostly start at 8 PM and 9 PM as per Indian Standard Time (IST), some games will start at 7 PM as well.

With Kabaddi gaining immense popularity in India, the sport’s World Cup is expected to garner much more attention. In the final of 2014 World Cup, India defeated archrivals Pakistan to win the gold medal. India has not only hosted all the seven preceding editions of the Kabaddi World Cup, but also won them as well.

The inaugural Kabaddi World Cup was played in 2004. After a gap of three years the second edition took place in 2007 and third in 2010. The Kabaddi World Cup became an annual event from 2011 onwards. The 2015 version of the World Cup was cancelled due to unrest in Punjab.
