Kamaal R Khan, Times Now and Anuskha Sharma's critics: Idiots of the day!

The great Scott Adams – creator of comic strip Dilbert – once said: “We’re a planet of nearly six billion ninnies living in a civilization that was designed by a few thousand amazingly smart deviants”. And I am pretty sure none of those savants are on Twitter. The big story today was India’s semi-final defeat to Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015. While most of us applauded the team’s valiant effort, others weren’t that. Here are some of the most idiotic reactions to the defeat (Also read: #ShameOnTimesNow: An absolute embarrassment to the profession of journalism)

Kaamal R Khan

Kaamal R Khan

I don’t know exactly why Kamaal R Khan is famous but he’s usually in the news for his misogynist and downright stupid views. And today wasn’t that different. Here are some of the things he tweeted after India lost (SIC):

  • Aaj Tho Anushka bhabhi ke dheele padd Gaye Tevar, Naa Sanyyaan khele, Naa Devar. #AUSvIND
  • Today is the most happiest day of @YUVSTRONG12 Bhai Jaan’s life. Kah Raha hogaa, salon Mujhe Nahi Liya thaa, Haar Gaye Naa.
  • South African players were crying after losing the match n our Besharam loser players are laughing after losing the match. #AUSvIND
  • Indian players are not fighters but they are biggest losers so kick on the ass on each Chutiya player. U all Go n Retire today. #AUSvIND
  • I request to public to boycott Anushka Sharma’s films. He is real #DESHDROHI whoever will watch her film anymore. #AUSvIND

Even if this is a strategy to stay in the news in any way possible, it still sucks.

Anushka Sharma critics

Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma

Also, we also had the brainy ones who analysed that the reason for Virat Kohli’s dismal innings was the presence of his girlfriend Anushka Sharma in the stands! Here are some of their comments (SIC):

  • @IamManoj7 who asked her to go to scg? can’t she watch on TV? kohli wasted all his energy previous night with her.his 1 run is proof
  • @WeLoveLOLism I know we would loose when Anushka Sharma showed up at Australia today.
  • @gl525 Couldn’t she enjoy her honeymoon after worldcup. #anushkaSharma
  • @im_hprashanth94 Anushka thanks for coming to Australia.. Hope u have great time with virat in flight..
  • Gayatritwit Dear Anushka, it’s always a bad idea to increase pressure on someone you love (Kohli) by being in stands that too in a crucial match. RIP.

Times Now

Times Now

While it’s bad practice for one media house to criticise another, I really don’t think Times Now can claim to be a media channel anymore. At best, they are a reality show full of screaming people (in small boxes), which frankly is just like Roadies except people get a bike!

The channel seriously seems to run on outrage thanks to their Editor-In-Chief and our nation’s COO (Chief Offended Officer) Arnab Goswami. While Arnab wasn’t present in this particular show, the channel’s anchors seem to have imbibed their leader’s basic traits. From asking Virat Kohli to apologise, to asking questions surrounded by burning flames India’s most ‘watched English news channel’ really showed us how to not present the news! They even asked people to tweet #ShamedInSydney, but instead they decided to trend #ShameonTimesNow.

But then it’s not like this is the first time Times Now has behaved like this. Around a month ago, they had Arnab raging about India’s Daughter. In fact, it was quite ironic to see Arnab call a rival channel ‘voyeuristic’ and the documentary ‘a desperate attempt to get TRPs’. It was like watching Arun Lal call Virat Kohli a slow-scoring batsman and then discuss it with Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar!

Erratum: An earlier version of the article had attributed a tweet to @dhaynarajendran instead of @IamManoj7. We apologise for the mistake.
