ISL 2016, Kerala Blasters FC vs Atletico de Kolkata, Live Streaming & Preview: Catch all the action here
So, it’s the final of ISL season three and Kerala Blasters FC will take on Atletico de Kolkata at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday evening. The match will be broadcast live with Hindi and English commentary on Star Sports Network and its HD platforms. Also, you can watch the match online here.
Kerala Blasters didn’t have the best of starts in the ISL as they occupied the bottom of the table with just a point to their name after three matches, where else Kolkata had a problem with a leaky defence. Coincidentally, today’s fixture is the same that we witnessed in ISL 2014 final when Kerala Blasters lost to Atletico de Kolkata in the final match in Mumbai by a solitary goal.
In a closely-fought final against Kerala Blasters, Rafique scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time to deny the Sachin Tendulkar co-owned side the opportunity of being the first ever champions of the tournament. The loss shattered the heart of Kerala and now when these two teams are meeting again in the finals, Kerala will eye for a revenge and aim to clinch the ISL season 3 trophy.
Even though Kerala will play at their home ground, they still can’t be termed as favourites as ATK is going to give their all to win their second ISL trophy in the span of three years.
“We are playing against a very good team. A couple of former Kerala Blasters players like (Stephen) Pearson and (Iain) Hume are familiar with the environment. It’s a great help to have all our supporters drive us on but there is no guarantee (of winning) apart from 90 minutes of full support. The effect that will have on the result of the game can only be determined at the end. There is no way we are the favourites,” said Kerala Blasters head coach Steve Coppell.
The Blasters will be without their significant player Josu Currais after the Spaniard picked up an automatic suspension due to yellow card accumulation.
On the other hand, ATK is the team who have already pocketed one ISL trophy in 2014 season and now they will their second ISL cup. They have been the most consistent team if all the seasons of ISL are to be considered as they have made it to the finals twice and reached the semi-finals once.
If Kolkata win this one then it will make them the first side to win the tournament twice, an immense achievement in Indian Super League’s short history. ATK will be without defender Robert Lalthlamuana and forward Juan Belencoso owing to suspensions.
