New Delhi: The first day of the Test match was full of excitement and challenge, where the bowlers kept the batsmen engaged with their brilliant performance. The bowling attack of the England team kept the opposition batsmen from scoring runs and took wickets at regular intervals. Six bowlers took the ball on this day and almost all of them performed effectively.

Great start led by Chris Woakes

Chris Woakes bowled with accurate line-length with the new ball and put the batsmen under pressure right from the beginning. Woakes took 3 wickets for 50 runs in 17 overs. His economy rate was 2.90, which is a proof that he controlled the run rate and forced the batsmen to make mistakes.

Josh Tongue created fear with fast balls

Josh Tongue conceded 72 runs in 17 overs and took one wicket. Although his economy rate was a little high (4.20), he beat the batsmen many times and bowled a useful spell.

George Hill’s middle order breakthrough
George Hill showed variety and discipline in his bowling. He took 2 important wickets for 56 runs in 18 overs. His balls proved to be mysterious for the batsmen and he maintained the pressure.

Edward Jack and Farhan Ahmed maintained control
Edward Jack gave 51 runs in 12 overs, although he did not get a wicket, but he kept the run rate of the batsmen under control by bowling on the same line. Farhan Ahmed also bowled usefully and took one wicket for 52 runs in 14 overs.

Tom Haynes’ surprise spell
Tom Haynes, who is a part-time bowler, took one wicket for 19 runs in 5 overs. His wicket came at a crucial time, giving the team an edge.
