Mohali, April 8: Lokesh Rahul etched his name in history as Punjab defeated Delhi by 6 wickets in the second match of the Indian T20 League at the Punjab Cricket Association I.S Bindra Stadium here on Sunday. Rahul struck a blistering, fastest half-century in 14 balls as the home team cruised to victory with ease.
Karun Nair (50), who also notched up a half-century, played a gem of an innings to help his side reach close to the victory.
Asked to bat, Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir (55) helped his side to reach 166/7. Meanwhile, for the home side, David Miller (24) and Marcus Stoinis (21) stayed unbeaten in their respective innings to help their side sail over the fence with 8 balls to spare.
For Delhi, Trent Boult picked up one wicket.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, Delhi lost Colin Munro (4) to Mujeeb early. However, skipper Gautam Gambhir (55) led from the front in his 42-ball half-century laced with five boundaries and one six to bring back the visitors in the hunt.
Later, incoming batsman, Shreyas Iyer (11)and Vijay Shankar (13) failed to do too much with the bat and were dismissed by Axar Patel and Mohit Sharma respectively in quick succession.
Following the dismissals wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant scored a blistering 28 runs off 13 balls before he was dismissed by Mujeeb – who also become the youngest bowler in the Indian T20 League to scalp a wicket.
Later, Chir Morris stayed unbeaten on 27 runs off 16 balls to take Delhi to a decent score off 166/7 in 20 overs.
For Punjab, Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Mohit Sharma scalped two wickets each.
