New Delhi: India’s opening batsman and stand-in captain Rohit Sharma smashed his ODI career’s third double century against Sri Lanka in Mohali. With it, he became the only batsman to have two or more double tons under his belt. This is only the seventh instance of a batsman scoring the double century in ODIs. Rohit now features on the list thrice which has Sachin Tendulkar as the first batsman to score 200 in ODIs. Apart from Rohit and Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Chris Gayle and Martin Guptill are the other batsmen to register a double century in ODIs.

1. Rohit Sharma 264 against Sri Lanka, November 13, 2014

Rohit Sharma had created history by achieving the feat for the second time in his career. First, the 27-year-old took mere 151 balls to reach the 200-run mark, laced with 26 boundaries and five sixes. And then, the stylish right-hander went on to score the highest individual score in ODIs, as he scored 264 runs off 173 balls with the help of 33 boundaries and nine sixes, against the toothless Lankan attack.

2. Martin Guptill 237* against West Indies, March 21, 2015

Martin Guptill’s unbeaten 237, makes him the second highest individual score in One-Day Internationals after Rohit Sharma’s 264. Guptill smashed 24 boundaries and 11 sixes to bring up the highest individual score of the World Cups, beating Chris Gayle’s 215 which he scored against Zimbabwe earlier in the tournament.

3. Virender Sehwag 219 against West Indies, December 8, 2011

The Nawab of Njafgarh, became the second player to cross the 200-run mark in 50-over cricket was Virender Sehwag, Batting against West Indies in Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore, Sehwag took on West Indies side by storm playing at Indore. Sehwag taking mere 140 deliveries (23 x 4, 6 x 6) to reach the double century created sensation in the cricketing world. It was also the highest record for quite some time before being shattered by Rohit Sharma. He finished with 219 runs in 149 deliveries.

4. Rohit Sharma 208* against Sri Lanka, December 13, 2017 

Rohit, who was captaining the Indian team, smashed unbeaten 208 off 153 balls. With it he became the second captain after Virender Sehwag to register a double century in ODIs. His knock included 13 fours and 12 sixes. Rohit raced to 200-run mark in just 36 balls after scoring his hundred.

5. Chris Gayle 215 against Zimbabwe, February 24, 2015

Chris Gayle became the first batsman to score the first double century in Cricket World Cups when he hammered Zimbabwe’s hapless bowling unit in the group stage. He was the last name in the list as he scored a brutal double century, the first in the history of World Cup against Zimbabwe in the 15th Match of the ICC World Cup 2015. He was finally dismissed for 215 and his innings comprised of ten boundaries and 16 sixes.

Rohit Sharma had created history by achieving the feat for the second time in his career. The first player to score a double ton in limited-overs cricket was none other than the legendary Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster, scored the double century against South Africa and remained unbeaten on 200, at Captain Roop Singh Stadium, Gwalior. Playing at Gwalior, Tendulkar was at his sublime best as he remained not out at 200 off 147 deliveries.
