Gripping day 1 of second Test!

Live Cricket Score Australia vs India 2nd Test: If anything, what will disappoint the Kangaroos is the way both Marsh and Head threw it away. The 84-run stand was causing frustration for the Indians but getting both them in the span of 32 balls would have boosted the visitors’ hopes. The Aussies could have easily been 4 or 5 down, but now, they have allowed the Indians to keep them pinned down under 300. Did India miss a spinner? Were their pacers tired? Looking at the cracks opening up, surely Ashwin, Jadeja or Kuldeep would have been handy. Yes, Ashwin is injured but the other two would have mighty effective, especially in the second innings. Very unlikely from this fitness-freaking Indian side but only Bumrah looked the fittest and fastest. Ishant picked up 2 wickets but he struggled for a major part of the day. Umesh Yadav was expensive and inaccurate while Shami was unlucky not to pick up a wicket. Talk about luck, what about Hanuma Vihari? First, he got rid of the set Harris, then broke the dangerous 84-run stand between Marsh and Head.

Live Updates Australia vs India 2nd Test: Exciting day of cricket. Both teams would take this. India will love because Australia were 112/0 at one stage and cruising as if they had suddenly been reminded that the Hayden-Langer era had re-begun. The hosts would be happy too, as divots have already started to appear and the pitch is starting to up and down on Day 1 already. So this looks like a good score. Runs on the board are always important and the hosts have them. They stuck to the age-old technique of see ball, watch ball and the openers benefitted. There was a but of a stutter in the middle, as Australia lost 4/36 in the span of 114 balls but after that, Marsh and Head ensured that India spent more time in the field searching for wickets.

Live Cricket Score Australia vs India 2nd Test: HUGE, HUGE APPEAL FOR LBW! Not out says the umpire! Inside edge indicates Bumrah to his skipper. Boy, that looked close. Full and around off, coming back in sharply, Cummins looked to defend but got squared up. He is hit on the pads and India appeal but wood saves Patrick. STUMPS ON DAY 1, AUSTRALIA END ON 277/6! Australia 277/6 vs India at Stumps in Perth. Harris 70, Head 58, Paine 16*, Ishant 2/35, Vihari 2/53

Live Cricket Score Australia vs India 2nd Test: A bit on the fuller side from Bumrah, around the middle, worked wide of Ishant Sharma at mid-on. He does get to it before the ball meets the ropes but the batsmen take three by that time. The stand now moves to 20 from 33 balls. Australia 272/6 vs India

Big wicket for the Indians before the close of play!

  • 2:54 PM IST

Live Updates Australia vs India 2nd Test: OUT! Ishant Sharma removes Travis Head for 58. Ishant gets the big wicket for India before the close of play, big strike for the visitors. What a waste of a wicket! Head has literally thrown his wicket away. Australia lose their sixth. Ishant has got a wicket off his first ball with the second cherry. A loosener from Sharma to start off with. Well outside off and fuller in length. Head loses his composure as he goes chasing after this wide one and goes for an expansive drive. The ball takes the thick outside edge and carries to Shami who is at third man. Head thumps his pad with his bat as soon as the catch is completed to show his displeasure. And why not. India slowly clawing their way back, will look to finish the day strong. Australia 251/6 vs India in Perth

Highlights Australia vs India, 2nd Test Perth: India recovered from a patchy start to reduce Australia to 277 for six on the opening day of the second Test but the hosts still walked out with advantage considering the bowler-friendly conditions on Friday. A 112-run opening stand between Marcus Harris (70) and Aaron Finch (50) vindicated their decision to bat on green top before Indian bowlers made a decent recovery by taking three wickets each in the last two sessions. (Australia vs India – Day 1 Highlights)

With the pitch offering better assistance from the post lunch session and the Indian bowlers managing to rectify their line and length, the visitors made in roads into the Australian batting line-up. Skipper Tim Paine (16 not out) and Pat Cummins (11 not out) were unbeaten at stumps after enduring a testing spell from Jasprit Bumrah.

Pacer Ishant Sharma (2/35) and spinner Hanuma Vihari (2/53) took two wickets apiece while Bumrah (1/41) and Umesh Yadav (1/68) accounted for one batsman each. Following a good start, Shaun Marsh (45) and Peter Handscomb (7) looked to extend their fourth-wicket partnership but could only manage to add three runs as Sharma broke through early in the final session.
