Cricket Score India vs Australia 4th Test Day 4 Highlights: Erratic weather on day four intervened India from closing in on a big win in the fourth Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. They were well on course for their maiden series victory on Australian soil after forcing the hosts to follow-on at home for the first time since 1988. Bad light and intermitted rain led to substantial loss of play with only 25.2 overs bowled on day four. The first session of Day 4 of the fourth and final Test got wiped out in the rain, leaving Indians frustrated on a Sunday morning. But within the commencement of play, the hosts Australia were bundled out for 300 and enforced to follow-on the remaining score of 322 runs.
Kuldeep Yadav registered his second five-wicket haul in Test cricket, first on the Australian soil in his maiden match. Earlier on Day 3, Aussies were left struggling at 236 for 6 in their first innings in reply to India’s mammoth score of 622-7 after bad light forced early stumps on Saturday. When the players walked off the field, Peter Handscomb and Pat Cummins were batting on 28 and 25, respectively. Pacer Mohammed Shami gets the breakthrough in form Pat Cummins on the sixth ball of the Day 4. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah also got his first wicket of the match as he got rid of Peter Handscomb. And, Kuldeep Yadav took the other two wickets, registered his first fifer in his first match at SCG.
Meanwhile, looking at the weather forecast of the last two days of the Sydney Test, it seems rain may intervene to steal India from taking the four-match series by 3-1. For starters, it will be overcast with chances of rain and if bad light takes over it could see some to no cricket being played on Day 5. Will rain rob India of a win at Sydney?
12:15 IST: The forecast for Day 5 is exactly the same as it was on Day 4 and the hosts will be really happy if it turns out that way. The Indians can only hope that the Sun decides to turn up somehow and allow for play on Monday. Whatever happens, what we will be seeing in all likelihood is Virat Kohli receive the Border-Gavaskar trophy from Allen Border. The start scheduled is an early one, at 10:00 local (4:30 AM IST). Join us then, for all the action from the SCG. Take care and cheers till then. Goodbye!
11:52 IST: It’s official, the day has been Called-off for the Day 4. An end to what has been frustrating, on and off day of Test cricket where we have had only a little more than 25 overs of play throughout. The light and rain have caused havoc here on the penultimate day, which saw India ending the first innings of the hosts and then enforcing them to follow-on, something which is rather rarely come upon the Aussies, especially at home. But somehow, they now have just a day more to survive to escape this game with a draw and the series with a 1-2 scoreline.
11:40 IST: Official confirmation awaited!
11:38 IST: No we haven’t slept. It’s just that there is no more fresh updates coming from the ground. But it seems it’s not going to restart.
11:28 IST: Just Indian Things:
11:26 IST: Meanwhile, Indian fans are holding up their phone torches to try and help the light situation at the SCG.
11:10 IST: No rain but this bad light situation has been really infuriating all day.
10:37 IST: The game was supposed to resume at 10:33 IST but the umpires are walking out and neither do they have their hats on nor are the players following them. There is a meter to check the light in their hands as well. A certain delay in post Tea here due to bad light.
10:15 IST: It has turned gloomy! Aussie batsmen are heading way back to the dressing room and Kohli doesn’t seem happy. Meanwhile, umps have called it a session and tea has been taken on day four! It has been a marvelous session for the visitors.
10:05 IST: Young gun making his mark on the Australian Soil:
10:00 IST: INDIA HAVE ENFORCED THE FOLLOW-ON! After almost three decades Australia will be following on at home. Great achievement, especially for a team coming from the subcontinent.
9:46 IST: Now then, will Virat Kohli enforce the follow-on? Australia still trail by 322 runs.
9:44 IST: Kuldeep Yadav gets the five-wicket haul in his maiden Test on Australian soil. Josh Hazlewood reviewed the decision and it resulted- there is no inside edge and the on-field umpire’s decision will prevail. Kuldeep has five! His 2nd one in Tests and the first in away Tests.
9:30 IST: Change in bowling. Ravindra Jadeja is back on after a one-over experiment with Hanuma Vihari. Which means, Kohli has switched Yada and Jadeja’s ends
8:55 IST: LBW! Kuldeep Yadav gets his fourth wicket in form of Nathan Lyon. A nicely flighted one by Kuldeep around off, dipping it onto the batsman who goes down on one knee for the sweep shot. But Lyon fails to make any connection and is hit flush on the front boot.
8:49 IST: OUT! Jasprit Bumrah strikes as Australia loses their eighth wicket. Chopped on! Peter Handscomb plays on and India have their second of the morning. Bumrah is elated, his first wicket of the innings.
8:24 IST: OUT! Timberrrrr…. the off stump takes a knock. This has kept super low. Unfortunate for Cummins, the second time it has happened to him this series. Australia loses their seventh wicket. Australia-236/7.
8:22 IST: Mohammed Shami to take the command with the Second New Ball
8:20 IST: Batsmen and the fielders make their way out to the middle. Jadeja to continue, Handscomb on strike.
8:18 IST: All Set for Day 4…
8:03 IST: RAIN HAS STOPPED and the covers are coming off. The umpires return to inspect the conditions and if no further rain, the first ball of Day 4 will be bowled at 13:50 local time i.e., 8:20 AM
7:50 IST: Umpires are the middle for an inspection, there seems to be no rain but the worry is still about the ever so dark light. Won’t be an immediate start post Lunch.
7:10 IST: LUNCH has been taken on Day 4 and we have lost the entire morning session to rain. Play will resume post-Lunch at 13:1o Local Time i.e., 7:40 IST local if there is no more rain. The covers are still on as of now.
0652 IST: As expected, the first session of the Day 4 has wiped out as will be taken at 12:30 Local Time i.e., 7:00 IST.
6:41 IST: Nothing much to update:
6:32 IST: It is still raining at SCG, we might have an early lunch.
6:16 IST: STATS CORNER-
6:10 IST: The covers are still on along with a slight drizzle. The wait goes on, looks like we are set to lose an entire session here. Pretty dark out there too.
5:30 IST: Scratch all that…Rain is back at SCG
5:26 IST: Rain returns!!! Heavy covers are back on.
5:12 IST: A Sigh of relief:
5:07 IST: Rain has stopped and the covers are coming off…It has got a lot brighter as well. The umpires are in the middle for an inspection. Still some time to go for resumption though and if there’s no further rain, Day 4’s play will begin at 11:00 LOCAL Time i.e., 5:30 IST.
4:56 IST: Ruined Sunday Morning!
4:47 IST: It has just started to rain and there will be a longer delay. The covers are being laid out too.
4:35 IST: The groundstaff have covered the surface here. The floodlights are on as well with the place being quite dark as of now, and the start could be a delayed one.
4:34 IST: Not A Good Sign for Indian Fans:
4:25 IST: There’s no rain as of now so all the action coming up from the SCG soon. Hopefully, the weather holds up and stays kind.
4:22 IST: PITCH REPORT – Brett Lee spots a rough patch on the wicket that he feels Kuldeep will be targeting while bowling today. Still feels that the surface is flat and a good one to bat on. Could have a bit for the seamers too today with the overhead conditions but shouldn’t be a hindrance to batsmen if they play well he says.
4:20 IST: How the pitch is gonna play today? Will it give more help to our spinners?
4.15 IST: Hello and Welcome to our live coverage of the Day 4 of the fourth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between Australia and India from the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). A day where we should get a fair idea of what is going to be the result of this game. The main focus will be on the weather today because weather forecast clearly said that there are high chances of rain on Day 4.
