India vs England, 3rd Test at Trent Bridge Highlights: India rode on the half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane as the visitors scored 307-6 on the opening day of the crucial third Test against England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Saturday.

Earlier, after being put to bat in the opening session, India squandered a 60-run steady opening stand to lose three quick wickets of Shikhar Dhawan (35), Lokesh Rahul (23) and Cheteshwar Pujara (14) within a span of 22 runs, thanks to a disciplined spell from Woakes.

However, Kohli (97) and Rahane (81) stitched a 159-run stand for the fourth wicket to put India out of hot waters. Kohli was his usual confident self, mostly chanceless and enjoyed the company of the Mumbaikar, who showed enough signs of being at his best. However, the Indian skipper missed on his second ton of the series when he fell off the bowling from Adil Rashid.

Earlier, Rahane also missed on what would have been a brilliant century when he was caught brilliantly at slips by Alastair Cook.

After Kohli’s dismissal, debutant Rishabh Pant came on to bat and shared a brisk 38-run partnership with Hardik Pandya before the latter became the 100th Indian Test wicket of England pace spearhead James Anderson and umpires decided the closure of play.

At the end of first day, Pant was unbeaten at the crease having added 22 runs on his debut. For England, apart from Woakes’ three wickets, Anderson, Stuart Broad and Adil Rashid took one-one wicket each.
