India vs West Indies 2018, 1st Test Highlights: Prithvi Shaw Maiden Ton Takes India to 364/4 Against Hapless West Indies on Day 1
Highlights, India vs West Indies 2018, 1st Test Day 1 at Rajkot: Prithvi Shaw became India's youngest centurion on debut as the hosts reached 364 for 4 against West Indies on the opening day of the first Test in Rajkot.
Highlights, India vs West Indies 2018, 1st Test Day 1 at Rajkot: India win toss, opt to bat. All eyes will be on debutant Prithvi Shaw as India host West Indies in the first Test at Rajkot. Young Shaw is set to become the 293rd Test player for India. When India announced a 15-member squad for the two Tests, it was clear that the management was looking at this series as a preparatory pad for the upcoming Australia tour. Hence, the non-selection of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay clearly indicated Kohli and the management plan. On the other hand, Jason Holder and Co would look to push India and give them a run for their money. They are an inexperienced team, who know little about the Indian conditions and how to play world class spin.
“Test cricket is my favourite format and it was really good to see most, if not everyone in our group, saying the same thing. In the last 2-3 years, we’ve played some of the top teams and we’ve pushed them,” said Holder at the pre-match press conference.
In the bowling department, Kohli is likely to stick to three spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Kuldeep Yadav. Umesh Yadav and Mohammad Shami will lead the pace attack in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who has been rested for the short series.
